Scientific Developer

We are seeking exceptional Scientific Developers who have strong computational skills and experience in applying these skills in the context of large-scale data science. While experience in human genetics is preferred, scientists with backgrounds in other quantitative fields and an enthusiasm for genetics’ potential to revolutionize healthcare are encouraged to apply.  You will typically work as part of small teams comprising scientists, statisticians and software engineers to design and implement data analysis pipelines for the purpose of deriving new insights into human biology, guiding drug development towards safer and more efficacious drug targets, and improving upon the state of the art in precision health and personalised risk scores. Your involvement in the various stages of development (methodology, software, analysis) will reflect your personal balance of computational and scientific proficiencies.

You should have:

  • A strong quantitative background, and most likely a PhD, in a STEM subject
  • Competence and familiarity with basic statistics
  • Proven experience of learning from large-scale data sets in a scientific or engineering context.
  • The ability to summarize and visualize complex datasets to look for patterns and potential biases
  • The ability to discuss and explain complex ideas to both specialists and non-specialists.
  • The ability to understand complex concepts from outside your own field.
  • Experience with scientific programming languages such as Python, R and/or C++

In return we offer:

  • The opportunity to work alongside talented colleagues in a growing company that combines a focus on cutting-edge science with commercial delivery.
  • The chance to do work that directly benefits healthcare, and improves people’s lives.
  • Access to amazing data – the chance to work with one of the largest and fastest-growing genotype-phenotype databases in the world.
  • Dedicated time for hacking on blue sky projects and research.
  • A competitive salary with pension, private healthcare, share options and other benefits.
  • A flexible, and family friendly workplace with enhanced maternity, paternity, and parental policies.

Given the sensitive nature of data used in Genomics plc you will be expected, as with all other employees, to ensure high standards of information security in your work.

Genomics plc welcomes applications from all candidates irrespective of age, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief, or marital or civil partnership status.
