Center Medical Director
GCAM is dedicated to and specializes in the plasma industry. We are a growing company with centers in multiple states, and we have an immediate need for a Center Medical Director at our facility located in San Bernardino, CA. This position is a part-time position and the Medical Director is an independent contractor working approximately 20 hours a month. The center is willing to work with the schedule to meet the needs of both parties.
Summary:
The Center Medical Director is responsible to follow and be compliant with the guidelines and regulations of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Good Manufacturing Principles (GMP's) and company policies to ensure proper donor assessment in regards to their suitability as a plasma donor and product integrity.
Essential duties and responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to:
- Performs history and physical exams on applicant donors
- Performs repeat history and physical exams on an annual basis on qualified donors
- Can explain the process and risks of plasmapheresis and obtain signed consent
- Monitor all reception area personnel in regard to donor acceptability and total protein requirements
- Counsel donors with positive results
- Review SPE results
- Monitor physician substitute(s) if applicable (RN’s, LVN’s and/or EMT’s)
- Perform monthly review of physician substitutes (observe physical examination)
- Review applicable donor records of physical examinations and laboratory test approved by physician substitute
- Review all abnormal SPE results
- Review all donor adverse reactions
- Review and approves all new and revised SOP procedures prior to release
- Help establish emergency procedures for the center
- Available (on-call) to provide assistance if center staff have questions or need guidance in the handling of emergencies
- Responsible for the continuous application of the quality assurance procedures to determine donor suitability and collection of whole blood (if applicable) and plasmapheresis within the facility
- Review laboratory testing (required by CLIA)
- Monthly review of the donor screeners (total protein and donor suitability)
- Must be readily available if immunizations are being performed and/or within 15 mins (by phone) if the facility is licensed for specialty programs
- Reviews SOP, cGMP regulations and company policies on an annual basis
- Responsible for training of physician substitute(s)
- Participates in the QA audit meetings one time per month
- Works in conjunction with Management
- Performs other duties as requested by management such as in-service classes
Job Requirements:
- Licensed to practice Medicine in California
- Current CPR card
- Experience in a Lab, Plasma Center or Blood Banking a plus
- Knowledgeable to handle all donor reactions or emergency situations
- Ability to teach other medical staff members and monitor their work performance
Physical Demands:
- While performing this job, it is regularly required to use hands to finger, to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, climb, or balance; and to stoop, kneel or crouch.
- Physical ability to operate equipment as required to access donor suitability
- Frequent repetitive motions required
- Ability to sit for short periods of time to enter information into a computer
- Physically able to use and operate equipment used in accessing donor suitability as well as equipment used to harvest plasma.
- Manual dexterity to perform all phases of plasmapheresis.
- Ability to lift, tug, and pull up to 25 lbs.
- Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens
