JOB DESCRIPTION
ACCOUNT SUPERVISOR 
 
The ACCOUNT SUPERVISOR is responsible for the relationship between the agency and a group of clients. The Account Supervisor will look after client needs through direct contact, liaison and the marshaling of agency resources. The Account Supervisor will be the key, day-to-day agency representative to the client and will maintain a highly responsive service orientation in all transactions. They must be knowledgeable in both the client’s business and the agency
business.
 
The Account Supervisor is also responsible for overseeing a team of account executives (AE) who manages the day-to-day administration of marketing and advertising initiatives for clients. Taking a hands-on approach, they are instrumental in the development and implementation of new initiatives and assist in the development of marketing and advertising strategies. The Account Supervisor supervises AE’s performance with accounts and reviews strategic decisions formulated by the various operating departments before they are
delivered to the client, as well as reviews creative concepts to confirm whether they meet strategic goals. S/he keeps regular contact with assigned agency accounts at a level,
hopefully, higher than that at which the account executive works. The Account Supervisor is involved in the assignment of client accounts to his/her direct reports.
 
The Account Supervisor needs strong verbal and written communications skills; a capability for analytical thinking; a sense of entrepreneurship; dynamic presentation skills; personal organization; and interpersonal skills.
 
Reports to the Director of Account Services.
 
Manages a group of account service department personnel.
 
Responsibilities:
 
§  Maintains direct, day-to-day, senior level client contact.
§  Directs the activities of a team of account executives and account coordinators to ensure proper agency service to clients.
§  Works in a proactive manner to provide client marketing plans with the greatest amount of added value through communications.
§  Receives regular client briefings from AEs.
§  Devises communications strategy and analyzes client input, together with the account team, taking into consideration background knowledge, research, field feedback, etc. to produce full communications plans.
§  Briefs creative and media staff in support of account executives.
§  Provides creative, production, media, public relations, and interactive department personnel with well-documented input, support data and production materials as required; ensures that advertising strategies are clearly defined, approved by clients, and understood by the creative and media teams.
§  In the absence of creative and media personnel presents and effectively sells communications plans, concepts, media and interactive marketing plans to clients; where creative and media personnel are present, supports them in selling concepts and plans.
§  Keeps apprised of all relevant client, industry and market developments.
§  Liaises with research personnel and other non-creative freelance resources.
§  Ensures that overall account revenues meet agency goals.
§  Fosters development and gainful employment of account service staff where appropriate.
§  Coordinates project timing and budgets with all relevant agency personnel.
§  Writes and reviews client status reports and important developments with account executives.
§  Prepares month-end overviews of the client’s current activities, and monthly revenue forecasts, plus plans for the future development of accounts.
§  Seeks new business opportunities with new and existing clients and plays a supportive role in the development of such.
§  Represents the agency at industry functions—promotes the agency at every opportunity. Is fully familiar with agency credentials and specialties.
§  Continuously works to upgrade knowledge and skills through available reading, courses, and seminars.
§  All other duties assigned
 
Oversees/guides Account Executives on the following: 
 
§  All account activity, Client strategy, and associated budgets and estimates
§  Review and authorization of quotations prior to client approval
§  Review and approval of client invoices
§  Ensure all necessary information and direction for the development of accurate strategic briefs are provided
§  Leadership and mentorship to the account team, promoting a cohesive team environment
§  Train and coach staff, helping them to learn and grow
§  Aid in ensuring prompt collection of accounts receivable as needed
 
Requirements
§  Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications or equivalent experience
§  4+ years’ experience as an Account Supervisor or Account Supervisor in a full-service agency
§  Possess a thorough understanding of the overall advertising and communications environment in addition to the industry and business
§  A strong account management background, including past-experience managing client accounts and supervising account teams
§  Proven leadership abilities and managerial experience as a disciplined team leader
§  Strong coaching and mentoring skills
§  Experience identifying superior business building opportunities
