R&D Software Engineer

Framestore's R&D department is looking to recruit Software Engineers to work on our in-house application used for Look-Development & Lighting by all our film departments.

This software forms the core of our Lighting workflow is used across the Framestore's film offices and integrates closely with our pipeline and in-house renderer.

The software also includes much of our other in-house technology, such as our fur/feather software, our environment/baking tools and various proprietary file formats. As a result, these positions present a great opportunity to contribute to a state-of-the-art application being used in high-end film production.

The position requires strong C++ development experience, as well as experience of working alongside other software engineers to design & maintain high-quality tools.

Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the rest of the R&D team to plan, develop and maintain the application
  • Interact with our artists, and other software development teams, to ensure the application meets their requirements
  • Keep up to date with the state of the art in CG production technology to help ensure our toolset remain competitive
  • Contribute technical and user documentation 

Skills and Experience:
  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related fields
  • At least 3 years of C++ development experience
  • Qt development experience
  • Experience of OpenGL development
  • Expertise with the development, and performance optimisation, of multi-threaded code
  • Linux development experience
  • Familiarity with CG terminology

The ideal candidate would also possess some combination of:
  • Experience of VFX production, in particular, Lighting
  • Experience with developing plugins for applications such as Maya
  • GPU rendering experience
  • Python experience
