Systems Support Assistant

Our Systems team develops system-level monitoring, supporting the latest in VFX software (e.g. Nuke, Maya, etc.), data management, OS configuration, render farm maintenance, and workstation support, and much more, for a large number of Linux and Windows systems we use globally. 

We are looking for someone who has a keen interest in being involved in a creative environment and wants a career within Systems or Computing to join us. 

This role is an entry level position where we will train and help develop your necessary skills to pave your way towards a Systems career which may include becoming a Systems Administrator or DevOps Engineer.

The Role and Responsibilities:
  • Workstation and render farm relocation, configuration, and support (hardware and software).
  • Artists will move around the building to work more efficiently with their peers on the latest movies and you will move their technical equipment and ensure that they are working again as soon as possible.
  • You will diagnose and replace hardware components and will learn how to configure and deploy workstations on a large scale.
  • Handling and installing the latest hardware like the PowerEdge FX2, adding to our 20,000+ core render farm.
  • You will be responsible for managing assets and loan equipment.
  • To keep track of work and equipment requests via a modern ticketing system (Jira).
  • You will have to interact with artists on a daily basis, on the phone and in person, so excellent interpersonal skills and having a patient manner is recommended.
  • Personal Development and learning the ins and outs of a RedHat based Linux distribution, Windows, and how we use them at Framestore.

Desirable Skills:
  • Experience in a customer facing role.
  • Experience with Windows, Linux/Unix, Mac OS.
  • Hands-on hardware experience; builds, upgrades, repair.
  • Basic scripting knowledge (Powershell, Bash, or Python)
Personal Attributes:
  • Self-motivated, flexible & strong problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail: can follow written procedures. You will also be expected to help us improve our documentation with guidance.
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • The ability to work well in a team.
  • Autonomous, resourceful, positive and calm in a production oriented environment.
  • Some heavy lifting involved

We have a lively, friendly team and working environment. We have regular hours for this role but as you work your way through the ranks in the Systems Support department, you will be a part of a rota for the early shift and the late “on-call” shift and you will always be compensated for those on-call weeks.

Our more senior members have great opportunities to work on new technology and new tools that have a global impact after being implemented into Framestore. Eventually, we have roles that are dedicated to working towards such projects which include VMware, ELK stack, WDS, Change Management (Puppet/WPKG), and much more. We have an open-minded department and any suggestion or question is always valid amongst us as we believe in progressing everyone’s knowledge and development. We have existing members who have been in Framestore for over 10 years due to the great working environment and the satisfactory work that we have produced in the past and present.
