Principal Electrical Engineer

Role Description
This is an opportunity to have a direct and daily impact from the early stages of system definition and engineering at an exciting energy technology startup. The ideal candidate will bring a strong system-level perspective to problem definition in combination with a rigorous, thorough, and detail-oriented problem solving approach. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in analog and digital circuit design at both the board and system levels. The ideal candidate will bring experience in product design and development from multiple commercial product launch cycles. You will interact daily with a cross-functional team of chemical, materials, and mechanical engineers to design, prototype, and test long-duration storage systems. You must be willing to roll up their sleeves and support a wide variety of prototyping efforts across the company, driving us through a series of internal system prototypes.

What You’ll Do
  • Scope and drive trade studies around the electrical system architecture to identify the optimal paths from cells to grid interconnect.
  • Define and specify the DC/DC and DC/AC power conversion systems and initiate corresponding vendor and component selection and validation plans.
  • Design, prototype, and test electronic system modules as a key technical leader on a cross-functional team tasked with delivery of engineering prototype systems. Iterate rapidly on design, build, test, feedback loops.
  • Create equivalent circuit-level models of cells and systems for optimization against application duty cycles.


What We’re Looking For
  • BS required MS preferred in Electrical Engineering or similar field
  • 10+ years of related professional engineering experience
  • Domain expertise in power conversion systems and power electronics preferred. 
  • Direct experience in product development within an early stage environment with multiple commercial product launches completed
  • Prior experience in Energy Storage, Battery Systems, Renewable Energy, Utility, and other related industry experience a plus
  • Experience with simulation and analysis tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, etc.
