VP Digital Marketing

We’re looking to add an experienced VP of Digital Marketing to our growing agency leadership team. The right candidate is a veteran with deep media agency roots who has successfully led and won client pitches for large multinational brands. In this role, you will be tasked with building out the paid media practice for one of the fastest growing agencies in the Bay Area. In addition to building a business you will also manage the development and strategy of large programs from end to end. You will bear ultimate responsibility and accountability for all P&L and deliverables. Does this sound like you? 

As a client-facing member of the Firewood leadership Team, the VP of Digital Marketing is a critical member of the organization. This is a hands-on position where you will staff and oversee each project to ensure that we continue to exceed the client’s expectations.

The ideal candidate must be able to work independently and, if needed, directly execute projects, while leading a team of senior media experts in the office and at client locations. Most importantly, you will represent strategic digital marketing solutions for the agency in new business pitches, client meetings and to the public and industry at large. This position will be based either in our Headquarters in San Francisco, CA, or in our offices in New York, NY.

What you’ll do:
  • Leading strategic development of new business pitches from RFP response to closing accounts including contract negotiations.
  • Evangelizing Firewood’s unique integrated approach to paid media in speaking engagements
  • Engaging senior decision-makers and maintaining strong post-engagement relationships in order to introduce new opportunities and grow the business. 
  • Work with senior level clients to make solution recommendations and represent the performance media vision of the company.
  • Partner with creative to ensure the digital marketing and creative teams are collaborating and working closely together to share ideas and discuss industry topics as well as inspire each other. Be responsible as needed for driving client strategy and planning for paid search, organic search, and performance media including programmatic, re-marketing, affiliate programs, etc.
  • Manage and build a disciplined team focused on delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Establish end-to-end processes, providing role clarity and enabling teams to function at high capacity.
  • Guide agency and client teams on KPIs, A/B testing, optimization strategies, and attribution models.
  • Effectively navigate the client and partner organizations in which we participate and build strong client relationships.
  • Develop insightful narratives on performance with accountability for continually improving the performance of our clients’ media investment.
  • Provide a clear and informed point of view on industry topics relating to digital media use, and cutting edge search and measurement methodologies.

Who we’re looking for: 
  • 15+ years of relevant experience – agency experience required.
  • 5+ years management level experience, managing a performance media team in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Proven track record of successfully telling the agency’s story and how it aligns with prospect and client needs.
  • A commitment to forging relationships with key client technology executives and maintaining strong post-engagement relationships, introducing new opportunities when appropriate.
  • Experience working with engagement teams to ensure account work is projected accurately and effectively and efficiently planned and staffed with all deliverables are prioritized accordingly.
  • Experience with overall account management, account growth, and leadership of cross-functional teams to develop approaches that meet the goals of our clients.
  • Specialized in performance marketing, with experience in SEM, SEO, and performance media across social and programmatic.
  • Experienced working with large clients preferred.
  • Solid financial acumen and business expertise.
  • Experience leading highly cross-functional teams with ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders and priorities.
