Fall 2019 Faherty Internship Program
About the Program
The Faherty Summer Internship Program is designed for undergraduate students who are interested in learning more about the apparel industry and want to gain hands on experience at a rapidly growing business that has a vibrant culture.
Outside of the experience you’ll gain from exposure to the business, you will engage in high-impact programming while building meaningful relationships with other interns and team Faherty through a variety of summer activities. This includes 1:1 mentorship, custom learning and development programming, and opportunities to impact business decisions.
Timeline:
· Open Application: Friday, July 26th – Friday, August 23rd, 2019 at 11:59pm EST
· Interview Timelines: Continuous throughout the application process
· Length of Internship: 12 weeks - Monday, September 16th through Friday, December 6th
Minimum Qualifications:
· Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
· Must receive school credit for internship
· Must be able to commit to the entire 11-week program
· Must be authorized to work in the United States
· Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to navigate a fast paced environment
· Have an understanding that a position as an intern will be unpaid
How to Apply:
Once you apply, we will provide regular status updates to all applicants on a rolling basis. Based on your background, experience and interests, you will be invited to interview if matched with one of the departments who will host an intern. You will meet with a member of our People Team and then with the Department Intern Lead. You can view a list of our teams who will be hosting interns this fall. The team at Faherty Brand doesn’t like to say good-bye to talented and high performing individuals. Therefore, should a full-time opportunity become available in the future, we encourage high performing interns to throw their hat in the ring for consideration.

Customer Experience: YOU ARE HERE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. When a customer inquiries on our website or phones in, we are the very first person with whom he/she will come in contact with. Whether it is a customer’s first time shopping with Faherty, or they are a loyal shopper, our roles in CX is critical to the success of delivering exceptional guest experiences and ensuring clients leave with results that are nothing less than amazing.
This an incredible opportunity to impact the experience by supporting and leading alongside the CX management the implementation of our new CRM platform and Customer Loyalty project. Both critical projects, you will be part of a team responsible for opening up new lines of communication with our customers, setting our tone of voice and delighting our customers daily whilst ensuring their custom is repeated, recognized and rewarded. Having an intimate knowledge of our Faherty products and of product locations will make you successful in your role alongside an awareness of omni-channel shopper experiences.
You will be responsible for staying consistent with the Faherty message, communicating in a positive manner with the customer and the wider Faherty team, and educating our CX team on the value of our new CRM software. You will also be responsible for dealing with any and all customer questions about the products and services that we offer. You are expected to continuously update your knowledge of our products, services, and policies.
Your primary job duty includes maintaining a positive attitude and focusing on customer satisfaction. You will work closely with the CX team to understand the complex needs when creating an omni-channel CX department. Encompassing the following:
● Be proactive in answering some 200+ customer inquiries through our multiple channels including: phone calls, emails, and live-chats.
● Participate in product knowledge sessions and weekly touch-bases with your manager to learn customer service and sales techniques on closing sales, up-selling to achieve specific sales goals as assigned by Faherty management.
● Master our internal point of sale systems in order to efficiently and effectively process customers orders. You will learn to communicate directly with our store teams to manage the shipment of merchandise to customers.
● Partner with the CX Management and Senior Associates to implement our new CRM software and communications channels (Chat/Email/Phone/Social Media). Project lead, train and create tools to help with a smooth transition across the entire Faherty estate, inclusive of Customer Tone of Voice.
● Partner with finance, e-commerce, marketing and other areas of the business to create a loyalty program that transcends retail and e-commerce resulting in repeat custom, increased customer lifetime value and satisfaction.
● Collect and act upon how customers view Faherty products, support, and company. Help improve our customer service, design, product, marketing, and technology by providing detailed notes about all customer interactions.
Must have qualifications include:
- Currently pursuing a B.A. in either Marketing, Business Administration, Hospitality, Communications, or a related major
- Works well both independently and in a team environment
- 1 year experience with POS and/or CRM systems
- Familiarity with and knowledgable on e-commerce strategies
- Ability to navigate between multiple e-commerce platforms
- Has a strong interest in consumer behavior and loyalty program strategies
- A proactive, patient and positive attitude that is eager to solve problems and understand customer needs
Merchandising & Planning: Fashion is fun by definition! The Merchandising team will provide the intern with hands on experience that they would receive as an Assistant Merchandiser. These skills include style creation, sample management, and trend projects. The intern will support both the men's and women's merchandising teams to get an in-depth look into the many aspects of merchandising. Integration into the Faherty’s Production and Design team will also be warranted. A focus on the fundamentals, including retail math, how to build a line, and cross-functional relationships will provide the intern with ample experience to continue along their career path. The intern’s engagement in daily work allow for the comprehension of and extension into larger projects including quarterly hindsights and market preparatory meetings with the Faherty Executive Team. When the intern has completed his or her time at Faherty Brand, he or she will have aided in the preparation for the Fall 20 Market, SKU and product analysis, competitive benchmarking, and white space opportunity presentation.
Must have qualifications include:
- Currently pursuing a B.A. in Fashion Merchandising, Fashion Design, Fashion Business Management or related fields
- Proficient to strong retail math experience
- Eager to immerse themselves in style, trends and inventory forecasting
- Ability and confidence to work independently
- Maintains a strong understanding of Faherty Brand identity and company consumer base
Men’s Design Apprenticeship: Faherty Brand is looking for a design apprentice to collaborate with our men's design team. This is an exciting opportunity to play an integral role in a fast-growing lifestyle retail brand. We are looking for someone who has a desire to learn, tackles projects with attention to detail and creative approach, and inspires others with a positive, can do attitude. This position is for the candidate who wants to jump in headfirst to make an immediate impact, work in a collaborative team environment.
Must have qualifications include:
- Currently pursuing a B.A. in Menswear, Fashion Design, Technical Design or related major
- At least 1 year of experience in garment construction and/or textile science
- Strong digital skill set and solid experience in Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
- Works well both independently and in a team environment
- A proactive attitude with an eagerness to pursue and execute more assignments while under pressure or during down time
Women’s Design: The Women’s Design department will aid in a multifaceted experience as the intern learns to tie the many aspects of women’s fashion together and further their understanding of both designing quality clothes. The Women’s Design team is seeking an intern to assist photoshoots and styling needs. Over the course of the internship period the Women’s Design intern will be immersed in fittings, sketch reviews, line creation meetings for Faherty’s upcoming collections. We ask that anyone interested in applying is, or has been, in design school and has a constant readiness to work for both themselves and for others. By having a positive attitude, a passion for the brand, and a “can-do” disposition!
Must have qualifications include:
- Currently pursuing a B.A. in Fashion Design or related major
- Solid experience in garment construction and textile science
- Strong digital skill set and solid experience in Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
- Consistent, strong sewing experience
- Must have a proactive attitude and ability to multitask under hard deadlines
Production and Design: The Production and Design team will gain authentic exposure to the Faherty’s production, textile and fabric sourcing process. Daily responsibilities include production management and quality inspections. By receiving and logging SMS and working with a showroom manager, the intern will provide much support to the Men’s Design team and tech design functions (including spec garments and data entry) leading up to the launch Faherty’s new season of garments. The intern will learn to work in the PD Backbone, which focuses on data entry in order to support approvals and communication amongst factories.
Must have qualifications include:
- Currently pursuing a B.A. in Fashion Design, Technical Design, Production Management, Product Design, Textile Development or related major
- Must have an enthusiasm for learning and clear attention to detail
- Must understand that even the most mundane tasks are imperative to the team’s success
Retail Management: Our Retail Management team is looking for an intern who has a strong focus on Operations or Visual Merchandising. The Retail Management intern will spend much time between Faherty’s New York City store locations in SoHo and Greenwich Village.
Visual Merchandising Focus
The Visual Merchandising intern will assist the company with floorset rework guidelines, complete ‘signage’ ordering projects, and create documents aligning the visuals of the store to the store population.
Must have qualifications include:
- Currently enrolled in university and pursuing a B.A. in Fashion Merchandising
- Creative
- Strong understanding of Faherty Brand’s store aesthetic and standards
Operations Focus
The intern will create company tools via Powerpoint, Word, and Excel, update forms and documents, and be a part of project management by enhancing store tools.
Must have qualifications include:
- Currently enrolled in university and pursuing a B.A. in Business Management
- Advanced and strong confidence in Microsoft Office
- A fast typer
- A problem solver and critical thinker
Wholesale Operations: Joining the Wholesale/Operations team will expose you to how specialty/department stores function. As a Wholesale Operations intern you learn how to sell products and how Faherty Brand is showcased differently from store to store. Additionally, the intern will support the team in nuOrder (our selling platform). Tradeshow exposure and preparation, in store experience following team on the road/store visits, order entry, merchandising line sheets in nuOrder, RLM navigation, creating RTV's, inventory and sample management for department stores will all complement the Wholesale Operations internship experience.
Must have qualifications include:
- Currently enrolled in university and pursuing a B.A. in Supply Chain, Operations Management
- Has a strong interest in operations
- Proficient to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
- Able to adapt quickly to using multiple databases and computer platforms
- Able to analyze and act on analysis quickly and precisely
- Able to execute tasks under pressure and under time-sensitive, urgent deadlines
- Ability to communicate professionally, articulately, confidently with account executives and business executives
- Comfortable with client interaction whether front facing or on call
- Works well in group environments and is not intimidated by constructive criticism
