ROLE SUMMARY

The Head of Innovation reports to the Chief Medical and Scientific Officer and plays a critical role in enhancing EverlyWell’s research and clinical development infrastructure, developing and maintaining academic and industry partnerships, and broadly facilitating the translation of the wide-ranging scientific discoveries to products and services that positively impact consumer-initiated laboratory testing. The Head of Innovation will have responsibility to (i) collaborate with faculty and research staff at academic institutions as well as commercial entities to maintain a broad understanding of science, engineering and potential applications, (ii) source opportunities, form external relationships, and structure and negotiate transactions for advancement of EverlyWell research and clinical development, (iii) continuously assess business needs for which external research and development can be leveraged, (iv) support entrepreneurial inventors and facilitate EverlyWell clinical pipeline formation, (v) develop and implement outreach events and (vi) work closely with the Chief Medical and Scientific Officer and other members of the executive team to develop strategic opportunities for corporations, investors, and other private entities.

Experience & Education:

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in an academic institution or industry, with emphasis on business development, evaluating, licensing, or marketing of intellectual property and/or technologies for commercial development
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory and/or leadership experience
  • Experience building, evaluating, and clearly presenting a complex business model
  • Experience at identifying, negotiating, and managing strategic alliances and sponsored collaborations
  • Experience in market research utilizing secondary data sources and the internet
  • Successful track record of working with a variety of stakeholders (internal and external) to resolve complex issues
  • Understanding of academic research setting, government regulations and sponsorship requirements and obligations
  • Experience drafting and negotiating technology-based agreements including research collaboration and program related investment transactions
  • Masters degree in a life science required
  • PhD in a life science preferred
  • Additional degrees in business or law preferred
  • This position is located in Austin, TX, and requires willingness to travel up to 25% of the time

Skills and Abilities:

  • Hands on experience in molecular biology applications, technology transfer, product development, clinical development, biotechnology/scientific
  • Experience negotiating and managing sponsored research and collaboration agreements
  • Experience facilitating inventor start-up companies
  • Experience in the evaluation and execution of a diverse set of business development opportunities is required
  • Demonstrated adaptability to work across functions and therapeutic areas is required
