Clinical Medical Assistant

  • We are looking for the right candidate to join our team as a Full Time, Clinic Based, Provider Medical Assistant. You will be the primary MA assigned to a busy full time NP Provider. We have included many of the daily duties listed below. This position is an advanced MA role and you must have experience. On a daily basis you will be working hand in hand with our front desk and provider staff.

    This is traditional MA role working to be the second point of patient contact once a patient is checked in. You will bring them back to the exam room, perform the intake, vitals and other assigned intake duties. You will enter data into the EMR system as required. You will then communicate this information as required to the provider you are working with.

    You will also be required to work assigned tasks in the EMR system as required. These could consist of tasks/orders/messages from a variety of sources. You must be able to problem solve and develop new processes to ensure tasks and processes are accomplished in a timely manner. You must have experience delegating, as this is critical to ensuring timely completion of duties. Additionally, networking and a strong ability to work with others is important as you have to work with office staff and providers

    • Patient Care
      • Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned that may include 
      • Checking schedules and organizing patient flow; 
      • Accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; 
      • Assisting patients as needed with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; 
      • Collecting patient history; 
      • Performing screenings per provider guidelines; 
      • Assisting providers/nurses with various procedures; 
      • Charting; 
      • Relaying instructions to patients/families; 
      • Answering calls, and providing pertinent information.
    • Clerical responsibilities as assigned that may include 
      • Sending/receiving patient medical records; 
      • Obtaining lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; 
      • Completing forms/requisitions as needed; 
      • Scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; 
      • Managing and updating charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriately.
    • Environmental responsibilities as assigned that may include 
      • Setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocols;
      • Cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; 
      • Cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; 
      • Ordering, sorting, storing supplies; 
      • Restocking exam/procedure rooms.
    • Organizational responsibilities as assigned including 
      • Respecting/promoting patient rights; 
      • Responding appropriately to emergency codes; 
      • Sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor.
    • Direct Patient Services including
      • Blood draw including capillary punctures and venipunctures; 
      • Injections and administration including:
      • Drug administration through various routes including injections; 
      • Vaccination administration through various routes including injections
    • Fulfills clinical medical assisting responsibilities that vary according to state law, which may include 
      • Medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping and autoclaving; 
      • Checking vital signs or mensuration; 
      • Physical examination preparations; 
      • Clinical pharmacology; 
      • Drug administration through various routes including injections; 
      • Prescription verifications with physician’s orders; 
      • Minor surgery assists including surgical tray set-up pre/post-surgical care, applying dressings, and suture removal; 
      • Biohazard waste disposal and monitoring; 
      • Laboratory procedures including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines; 
      • Quality control methods; 
      • CLIA-waived testing; 
      • Capillary punctures and venipunctures; 
      • Specimen handling such as urine, throat, vaginal, stool, and sputum; 
      • Medical assistants must adhere to the MA scope of practice in the laboratory.


    Minimum Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Graduation from an accredited medical vocational institution or a community college course in medical assisting strongly preferred.
    • For Certified/Registered Medical Assistant: Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant. Vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and injection current experience preferred.
    • For non-Certified/Registered Medical Assistant: Minimum five years of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant. Vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and injection current experience required.
    • Current BLS/CPR certificate. Must have been certified previously. If certificate is expired it may be obtained upon employment
    • Computer experience including demonstrated ability to adequately type
    • Successfully able to demonstrate techniques to de escalate a situation

    EMR Experience
    We use athenaNet by athenaHealth as our EMR system and practice management system. Experience with athenaNet would be highly favorable for the right candidate. Although, athenaNet experience is not required, relevant experience with a modern fully deployed EMR system is required. Such systems include but are not limited to eClinicalWorks, Cerner, Epic, Practice Fusion, Mckesson or Allscripts.

    • 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM position
