Business & Technology Copywriter (Freelance)

DockYard, Inc. is searching for an extraordinary, tech-savvy Freelance Business & Technology Copywriter!

We are looking for a writer, content strategist, and researcher who can bring their passion and interest in business and technology to DockYard. As a top tier web app developer based in Boston (with remote employees throughout the US and Europe), we employ exceptionally talented teams of designers, software engineers, and project managers to work on groundbreaking projects for some of the world’s most innovative organizations such as Netflix, Flywheel, Nasdaq, McGraw-Hill, and WNYC.

What you’ll do:
  • Research competitors and interview a cross section of DockYard employees to identify ideas for content, positioning, and messaging 
  • Conduct research on web development, digital product development, industry trends, competitors, and other topics to inform writing
  • Re-write select sections of based on research
  • Write select new pages for
  • Craft distinct content that explores trends in web app design and development, coding, and various technologies
  • Learn and understand our clients’ unique needs and purchase motivators 
  • Leverage content to differentiate DockYard in the market 
  • Ensure that appropriate keywords are included in all copy to drive organic search
  • Ensure all content aligns with DockYard’s brand attributes, tone of voice, and high-level marketing strategy
  • Assist in generating ideas to increase engagement on DockYard’s website
  • Be abreast of trends in web design, web development, web apps, organic search, and digital marketing
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy in content written
  • The role has potential to evolve into an ongoing relationship.  Down the road, there may be a need for writing and editing thought leadership, blog posts, case studies, white papers, and other types of content

What we’re looking for:
  • 5-15 years of experience as a writer, content strategist, editor, or researcher
  • Outstanding abilities in writing succinct, easy to skim, and engaging marketing copy required
  • Editorial mindset and understanding of what resonates with target audiences 
  • Excellent English language grammar and proofreading skills required
  • Ability to research and quickly grasp and understand new and rapidly evolving technologies and trends 
  • Basic understanding of common marketing concepts and methodologies
  • Tech or digital industry experience
  • Strong oral communication skills 
  • Integrity and strong work ethic
  • Outstanding portfolio of B2B writing samples
  • Comfortable in a 100% remote (work from home) environment

Nice to haves:
  • Strong preference for candidates who have worked at a top national digital agency or web developer and who understands the methodologies these firms use
  • Experience in web development, web design, coding, software, technology or professional services industries
  • Understanding of organic search
  • We will also consider exceptional business or marketing strategists who want to transition into writing
