CFS is assisting our client, an O&G company located downtown Houston, with their search for a Senior Property Tax Analyst. The analyst will be joining a close-knit team, so the opportunity will be perfect for someone coming out of Big 4 (similar work environment).
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Maintains property tax requirements database.
- Reconciles all tax balance sheet accounts.
- Works directly with property tax consultant with changes in property tax rates and filing requirements to ensure proper reporting and tax remittances and to minimize tax liability.
- Monitors and advises tax consultant of any acquisitions and divestitures of company properties.
- Prepares and maintains general ledger entries related to property taxes including monthly accruals.
- Reviews and compares, for accuracy, actual beginning of year accrual to revise estimates and makes necessary adjustments.
- Maintains and reviews ad valorem tax billing decks for property tax accruals.
- Reverses property tax accruals, after actual tax payments and prepares monthly variance analysis for property taxes for the company.
- Prepares and coordinates the formal review of sales tax audit exceptions with the auditor.
- Records adjustment entries resulting from sales tax audit exception findings.
To be considered qualified for this role, candidates must have the following:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year university or college with coursework in accounting
- Big 4 experience
- CPA preferred, not required
- Five years of property tax accounting experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge/experience with property tax assessments, reconciliations, audits & joint interest accounting.
- Strong Excel skills
- O&G Accounting Systems (Enertia) and Report Writing software (Monarch)
