Director of Accounting

Primary Functions:
  • Assist FBS Controller with purchase accounting and other high-level accounting matters.
  • SEC filings, comment letter responses and other externally published financial statements.
  • Works closely with the CAO on other financial reporting issues as required.
  • Lead technical assistance to the Corporate Accounting team
  • Oversee consistent process with effective controls for raising, evaluating and documenting technical issues.
  • Keep current on new accounting and SEC regulations
  • Present and educate executives on new accounting standards and the accounting for complex transactions.
  • Develop and implement readiness plans for the adoption of upcoming standards (e.g. revenue recognition, lease accounting, etc.)

Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • The Senior Manager Technical Accounting will lead the evaluation and documentation of complex accounting transactions and will provide input in to the development of accounting policies.
  • The person is expected to work on multiple projects at any given time, and some of the work may require fast turnaround.
  • Most will require the professional to read through complex documents, identify the relevant accounting issues, and then conduct research to address the issues.
  • The successful candidate must be versatile and proactive with a solid work ethic, strong leadership skills, and ability to work well as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work as a team member as well as act as team leader.
  • Communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken.
  • Computer literate on Microsoft programs: Word, Access, Power Point, Excel, Project.
  • Additional:
  • Extensive functional, business, industry and leadership expertise.
  • In-depth knowledge of US GAAP is essential
  • Big four experience highly preferred.
  • Highly self-sufficient and knowledgeable to make decisions and serve as a resource for other accountants.
  • Flexibility to multi-task, consistently meet deadlines, and perform self-review of work product for quality in a dynamic environment.
  • Well organized, able to prioritize, and have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to drive continuous improvement and ensure achievement of company goals.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written are essential.
  • Ability to work extended hours during various time of the month/year.
  • Experience:
  • 8-10 yrs experience in financial accounting and experience dealing with complex acctg issue.
  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting is required. CPA required.
