Dev(Sec)Ops Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Dev(Sec)Ops Engineer. We want you to work with our talented and passionate team to ensure that DeadHappy’s Technology platform and development processes are optimised, secure and efficient in order to provide a fantastic service to our customers. You will have a unique opportunity to get involved early to shape both our culture, our technology and our processes.

In previous roles you will have been a competent software engineer who has discovered a talent and passion for improving productivity and stability using DevOps tools and automation and you will have also managed highly scalable and secure cloud infrastructures; ideally within a Financial Services/Technology environment (but this is definitely not a showstopper).

You have a real passion for solving customer and business problems by working collaboratively with those around you and you will be motivated by continuously innovating our engineering systems and practices. You will not be phased by the request to “automate us all out of a job”.

This is a role where collaboration skills are on par with technical skills and your responsibilities will include working with engineers to implement automation tools and frameworks (CI/CD), managing and optimising our cloud platform (including deploying upgrades and fixes), troubleshooting production issues, conducting system tests for security, performance and availability and creating and maintaining relevant documentation.

You will be somebody who is happy to get stuck into what you need to do but also get involved in things outside of your specific experience and functional expertise when needed.

Technical competencies and experience
  • Extensive experience (3-5 yrs) in a Dev(Sec)Ops or similar software engineering role
  • Expertise in code deployment tools (e.g. Puppet, Ansible, Chef)
  • Expertise in network, server and application monitoring (and tools)
  • Deep knowledge of software-automation production systems (e.g. Jenkins)
  • Experience of building and running scalable and secure cloud infrastructures (e.g. AWS, Google, Digital Ocean)
  • Experience of working with secure coding and testing approaches (e.g. OWASP, Pen Testing etc.)
  • Experience of working with performance monitoring and alerting tools
  • Experience troubleshooting production issues under pressure
  • Experience of Javascript based coding, nice to have
  • Familiarity with LAMP stacks would be useful but not a must have

Non technical competencies and experience
  • A disposition to keep things simple and place the customer at the centre your thinking
  • Problem-solving skills that balance pragmatic technology choices with innovation, to solve customer problems and business needs
  • Naturally organised and process driven
  • A strong collaborator who can also work independently but prioritises the team over self and leaves your ego at the door
  • Willing to get your hands dirty to unblock and enable the whole team
  • Thrives working in an agile / lean environment
  • A healthy tolerance for the ambiguity that comes with fast paced digital workplaces

Why work at DeadHappy?

Working at DeadHappy won’t be for everyone. We’re a new business and have a start-up environment highly motivated and focused on growing our product, our tech platform and hitting product-market fit. That means getting stuck into what you need to do but also getting involved in things outside of your experience and functional expertise.

We don’t have beanbags and Xboxes and you’ll more than likely be working on a scaffolding board (with the rest of us), so if you have a need for home comforts, this probably isn’t the place for you.

We have second-hand coffee machines, a RedBull fridge, and a few cardboard mouse mats, but alongside that, there exists a huge opportunity for someone to get involved in creating something we all truly believe will be very successful.

It will be an adventure, we’ll all learn a huge amount along the way, and the best news is that we’ll also pay you some money.

If you are ambitious and looking to progress and want create something different and better in the Life Insurance space, we have big plans for growth and are well funded, so there will be plenty of opportunities for developing a career in a range of directions for the committed candidate.
