We are looking for an experienced sales specialist who is excited to help us grow the adoption of our digital biomanufacturing platform. You will be our first hire dedicated to bringing in new contracts and growing the business. As our first sales hire, you’ll be in an entrepreneurial position: you will define the sales strategy, processes, and workflows. You’ll help with product positioning and marketing, and you’ll work on developing strategic partnerships. Given that you’ll be speaking with customers every day, we also expect you to identify new business opportunities, market segments, and product offerings.
This is an opportunity to tackle one of the key challenges at a fast growing startup: growing our business month over month. You will explore diverse technologies (hardware, robotics, machine learning) and markets (biopharmaceuticals, sustainable agriculture technology, alternative proteins, cellular agriculture, renewable materials, and industrial biotechnology). You will collaborate with the founders and our technical and scientific teams. You will also speak directly with customers to understand their perspectives and needs.
What you’ll do:
- Work directly with the CEO on all business development initiatives.
- Source and close new contracts with prospective customers.
- Identify new business opportunities.
- Contribute to product positioning and pricing strategy.
- Analyze and prioritize market segments.
- Analyze competitive products and services.
- Communicate and prioritize product needs and feature requests to our product team.
- Liaise with technical and operational teams on the pipeline of new clients.
- Represent the company at conferences, seminars, and other events.
About you:
- You have at least 3 years of sales development experience. We also welcome more experienced candidates, which would be reflected in the title.
- You are looking for an entrepreneurial opportunity. You’re excited to join a fast-growing start-up.
- You have experience selling life science technology or contract services to our client base: R&D groups in industrial biotechnology, agriculture biotechnology, and biopharmaceuticals.
- You are an adept communicator. You are able to communicate with diverse stakeholders within life science organizations, ranging from bench scientists to C-Suite executives.
- You have a wide range of interests and you’re very curious about people.
- You consider empathy, self-awareness, and introspection as some of your core strengths.
- You’re authentic and you don’t feel the need to oversell yourself.
- You have a scientific background, but you’ve now transitioned to business development for a few years.
- You have a track record of leadership and being proactive.
- Ideally, you have some background in microbial or mammalian process development or you feel that you could ramp up quickly.
- Ideally, you have some experience negotiating contracts, but it’s not required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant scientific field. Master’s or PhD preferred.
About the role:
- Full-time position.
- Expect to travel 25-50% of your time.
- We prefer you to be based in the SF Bay Area, but it is not required. Our second preference would be being based in another US biotech hub, such as the Boston Area.
- Competitive compensation in the form of salary, equity, and commission.
- Health insurance (PPO), Dental, Vision, and Life.
- PTO: 3 weeks and 10 days of company holidays.
- Parental leave policy: 12 weeks. Full salary paid.
- We offer free breakfast, lunch, coffee, gym, and snacks.
