Health Economics & Outcomes Research, Director / VP

The HEOR Director/VP will be responsible for the design, development, execution, and monitoring of life sciences research projects. This role will have two major components, (1) an internally facing function that works across the company to develop and execute custom research projects for life sciences customers, and (2) an externally facing function that supports the life sciences business development group in both acquiring and growing customers and creating a repeatable life science offering. The individual selected for this position will have major roles in defining the clinical value propositions associated with client products and in communicating scientific results to achieve maximal scientific impact and commercial success. The HEOR Director/VP will be a key contributor to the Chief Medical Officer’s leadership team and will collaborate closely with the life sciences team. This position requires an experienced individual with expert scientific knowledge of HEOR and its application throughout the clinical development process, strong business acumen, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Translate business needs from our life sciences clients into research proposals that COTA can effectively deliver 
  • Lead design and development of customer-commissioned research projects that leverage deep EMR data to establish the clinical value propositions of client products
  • Collaborate with physicians, statisticians, data scientists, business leaders, and others within and outside COTA to conduct research projects including observational studies, pharmacoeconomic analyses, and other relevant study types
  • Act as the face of COTA to our customers in representing key life science research deliverables, including protocols, statistical analysis plans, and analysis of data
  • Proactively and independently contribute to client satisfaction through resolution of complex issues, especially if they affect market access decisions and evidence concerning our client products 
  • Communicate studies in progress and mature results to key stakeholders through high quality abstracts, posters, and publications
  • Represent COTA at industry scientific conferences, whether as a platform speaker, poster presenter, or attendee
  • Partner with life science team to proactively find new opportunities within existing and prospective customers
  • Travel with life science team to existing and prospective accounts to represent COTA research capabilities
  • Collaborate with life science team to ensure your customer interactions are aligned and optimized to the business strategy for the customer account
  • Provide expert perspective to life science team in scoping research proposals of interest as well as supporting the life science team in assessing scope modifications to existing proposals
  • Develop and execute non-sponsored research projects that will provide COTA strategic brand awareness with life science customers
  • Network within the life sciences industry and play a consistent role in identifying new business opportunities
  • Maintain current and in-depth understanding of HEOR analytical methodologies, along with the ability to lead and mentor internal team members in successfully executing them

  • Doctoral or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., outcomes research, health services research, epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics, or related fields)
  • 6 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
  • 2 years of experience with Real World Data / Real World Evidence and their application to pharmaceutical development

  • Has working knowledge of SQL and at least one of R or Python
  • Prepares protocol documents, Statistical Analysis Plans (SAPs), design shells for tables and figures, and independently or in conjunction with a statistician, performs statistical analysis
  • Has deep familiarity with descriptive statistics, multivariate regression, logistic regression, power calculations, and survival analysis
  • Mentors junior analysts in HEOR related methodologies
  • Evidences well-developed conceptual and integrative thinking with capability to access internal and external resources for advice
  • Implements projects, including engagement with key stakeholders, with a high degree of autonomy
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Prepares manuscripts and reports describing results of statistical analysis
  • Has strong organizational and time management skills 
  • Works well independently, as a team member, and as a team leader 
  • Feels comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
