Analytical Laboratory Supervisor

An exciting opportunity exists in our Edmonton, AB facility for an Analytical Laboratory Supervisor with a strong background in experimental work and analytical chemistry. The successful candidate will support laboratory operations, industrial research projects and experiments for clients in various industries such as oil, energy, and natural resources.
 
Primary Tasks and responsibilities: 
  • Maintain a safe, organized and efficient analytical lab space
  • Provide supervision, training and mentorship to technical lab staff
  • Oversight and Management of Lab Operations:
    • Uphold best lab practices by development and implementation of QA/QC and SOPs
    • Supervises the operation, calibration, diagnostics and maintenance of various analytical instruments and equipment, including but not limited to GC, GC/MS, XRD, rheometers, centrifuges, etc.
  • Support Project Managers in determining project schedules, cost requirements, workflow and strategy in the area of chemical analytics:
    • Applying standard and novel scientific experimental practices
    • Planning and scheduling analytical equipment and personnel related to projects
    • Assisting in the analysis, compilation and presentation of data, including writing technical reports
  • Analytical testing and experimental setups
  • Accountable for the management of lab inventory, such as sample retention and forecasting project consumables 
  • Brainstorming and applying new ideas and technology in the areas of lab techniques, sample preparations, instrumentation, etc.​
  • Establish and maintain relationships with analytical vendors and service providers
  • Engages in analytical laboratory infrastructure and processes
  • Staying current on evolving industry practices and standards


Required skills and experience:
  • Working safely in a lab environment, following procedures & regulations 
  • Experience supervising technical teams
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment under deadlines
  • Ability to rapidly assimilate data and results in parallel fields 
  • Experience using LIMS, Excel, MATLAB and/or Origin is an asset
  • Proven successes in industrial problem solving


Qualification requirements:
  • B.Sc., Diploma in Chemical Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology.
  • 10-15 years with analytical equipment, method development, procedures and lab techniques
  • Several years in a supervisory role
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Eligibility to work in Canada
