WordPress developers' primary focus is working with clients from the concept phase and creating and testing the site architecture. They do so by utilizing WordPress to code and create sites via Photoshop layouts. WordPress developers may implement and maintain reusable code libraries to ensure effective WordPress development cycles. Other job responsibilities can include developing new functions for current websites, conducting WordPress training for clients, and creating interfaces and visuals for mobile applications. WordPress developers may collaborate with colleagues, such as graphic designers, to ensure sites are streamlined and user-friendly. They must also make sure that sites follow all relevant best practices for web development. WordPress developers may have to resolve website issues for clients in a timely manner.



WordPress Developer requirements and qualifications

  • Good understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery
  • Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications
  • Experience designing and developing responsive design websites
  • Comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome inspector, etc.
  • Ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers
  • Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages
  • Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML)
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools {{such as Git, SVN, and Mercurial}}

  • Strong understanding of PHP back-end development
