CLINIC LOCATION:
Lafayette, Louisiana
COMPANY PROFILE:
Founded in 2005, this organization is a multi-state wound care physician and outpatient wound care clinic management company. They are currently seeking a clinical physician / medical director for their affiliated office in Lafayette, Louisiana. Located on a hospital campus, the new physician will join a small, dedicated team of nurses, hyperbaric oxygen therapy technicians, and other clinical and administrative support personnel. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated physician to join an experienced wound card, hyperbaric medicine, and comprehensive limb salvage team, all working together with infectious disease, vascular surgery, cardiology, orthopedics, and general surgery to provide a full team-based approach for each and every patient.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The new physician will be highly supported by a dedicated team of nurses, HBO techs, and other clinical and administrative staff members. This position is located in a medical off building attached to an acute care general hospital.
The main clinical services provided are debridements, artificial skin grafting, and full contact casting. All procedures are performed under local anesthesia. If a patient requires anything more robust, they are referred to the hospital OR.
The patient volume is variable and largely dictated by physician preference. Average patient volume is 16 to 20 visits per full day, but many physicians see as many as 30 patients. Most appointments are follow-ups. An average of 1 to 2 new patients per day are seen. New patient visits are scheduled for 45-60 minutes and follow-ups are scheduled for 15-30 minutes, depending upon the procedure and type of appointment.
As the only physician in the clinic, the new provider will see patients in a clinical capacity and also function as the Medical Director of the site, working within a team environment that is highly supported, but being the clinical authority in all decision-making.
All patient visits are fully supported by registered nurses, who greet, room, and prepare the patients for their appointments. Most HBO appointments are conducted solely by the HBO technicians and physicians only see the patients for follow-ups. Approximately 15% of patients receive HBO therapy treatment and plans typically run 10-12 weeks.
Patients see the same doctor, nurse, and HBO tech to ensure continuity of care.
Typical duties include, but are not limited to:
- Evaluate and treat new patients and follow-up patients for wound care services.
- Order testing and labs needed to evaluate patient wounds and underlying conditions.
- Interpret all test results ordered.
- Diagnose patient health conditions related to wounds and underlying diagnoses affecting the wound healing process.
- Create plans of care for patients and coordinate with patients’ healthcare teams.
- Communicate with patients' PCPs and specialists as needed.
- Communicate with patients and family members in regard to the patients throughout their treatment plans.
- Provide referrals to other healthcare providers as needed.
- Supervise Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) treatments.
- Perform advanced modalities and procedures as patient care requires.
- Document services in a timely and accurate manner.
- Provide quality care while complying with policies and procedures within scope of practice.
The practice utilizes the iHeal EHR.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Louisiana medical license, active or eligible to reactivate
- DEA
- Board Certified or Eligible, relevant field
- previous wound care or other applicable experience (surgical, primary care, etc.)
- motivated, energetic personality
- excellent communication skills
