They employ a staff of more than 200 team members, ensuring a full spectrum of quality care for each and every patient. They have home-based and facility-based services.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Compliance Officer, and Board of Directors, the Compliance and Education Director is responsible for leading, monitoring, and implementing the organization’s compliance, quality, employee education, and safety programs in accordance with organizational policies, as well as legal and regulatory requirements. The Compliance and Education Director will directly supervise the Education & Quality Nurse and Compliance Coordinator, with additional oversight over departmental support staff.
Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Maintain responsibility for the overall risk management of the organization, focusing on high risk and problem prone areas.
- Conduct audits to investigate and monitor compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, including those related to Medicare, Medicaid, and HIPAA Privacy Standards.
- Serve as the organization’s Privacy Officer and partner with the Director of Information Technology to ensure correct role-based access to the EHRs (Suncoast and Kinnser) and HIPAA compliance.
- Oversee employee education programs and provide professional education on corporate responsibility, code of conduct, fraud and abuse, legislation, and regulations that affect operations, ethical principles, and service recovery for all employees.
- Provide volunteer training, as needed.
- Work in coordination with the Education & Quality Nurse to ensure the education program meets all necessary requirements for staff education, including new employee orientation, in-service training, and clinical competency training.
- Assist in setting a culture that is open and responsive with no retaliation for reporting errors, breaches, or concerns.
- Actively participate in quality and compliance committees to maintain appropriate business standards, including taking the lead in developing internal controls to monitor adherence to applicable statutes.
- Work closely with the Compliance Officer to ensure that corrective actions are implemented to prevent and/or correct any discrepancies in billing to Medicare, Medi-Cal, or commercial payors.
- Provide oversight in the set up and active templates for documentation in the EHR to ensure they meet legal and compliance standards.
- Act as the lead point person for surveys/audits conducted by external parties and manage activities to completion.
- Work directly with leadership to ensure any corrections, late entries, or documentation changes adhere to compliance documentation standards.
- Maintain responsibility for the overall monitoring and tracking of infection control in patient care delivery.
- Maintain responsibility for the documentation and tracking of the service recovery process and assist clinical services in handling of complaints.
- Service as the liaison for the Board Compliance Committee, which reviews policies and ensures quality of care and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate closely with senior leaders to prioritize operational opportunities for improvement and ensure necessary staff education is provided.
- Determine priorities in workload and complete projects in an accurate and timely manner.
- Oversee patient safety, corrections, required reporting, and tracking.
- Use effective management skills to mentor and motivate staff, delegate appropriately, and strengthen performance while maintaining best practices, teamwork, and shared accountability.
- Create a work environment that encourages participation in order to promote retention, productivity, quality, customer-oriented staff; and utilize clearly defined goals, objectives, and methods to measure success.

REQUIREMENTS:
- California RN license
- minimum of BSN; MSN preferred
- extensive hospice industry experience
- 4+ years experience in leadership, quality, and compliance
- certification in healthcare compliance/privacy preferred
