Emergency Medical Technician

CHLOETA is recruiting a number of individuals to fulfill Call When Needed (CWN) positions under existing governmental contracts as wildland fire medics for wildfires and all-hazards incidents for the 2018 fire season. Work may include Line Medic assignments providing BLS or ALS care on the fireline to injured or ill wildland firefighters or Camp Medic assignments assigned to the Medical Unit at a Base Camp or Incident Command Post (ICP). Pay is dependent upon experience and qualifications. Extensive travel is frequently necessary to wildfires, company compensated. Opportunities for substantial overtime while assigned to wildfires is common. 

Duty Location
  • Pacific Northwest GACC (Oregon and Washington, Statewide)

Minimum Requirements for Consideration
  • MUST be be National Registry (NREMT) Certified
  • MUST be licensed as an EMT (Basic, Intermediate/Advanced or Paramedic) in either Oregon or Washington
  • MUST reside in Oregon, Washington or an adjacent state
  • Able to successfully serve as a medic on a wildland fire or other all-hazards incident either in a camp setting or on the fireline operating under medical direction
  • Clean driving record for the past three (3) years
  • US Citizen
  • Ability to travel extensively and be assigned to incidents for up to fourteen (14) consecutive days, or longer, exclusive of travel
  • Line Medics lacking the necessary basic training will be provided with it (Basic Wildland Firefighter; S-130, S-190, ICS-100, IS-800, L-180) prior to being made available for assignment
  • Line Medic personnel will be provided with an arduous Work Capacity Test (WCT, aka "pack test") prior to beginning work 

  • Represent Chloeta professionally at times
  • Render aid to patients in accordance with pre-determined Medical Direction and Company SOPs 
  • Operate effectively in team settings in high stress environments
  • Maintain a high level of physical fitness
  • Maintain a constant of readiness for incident response nationwide
Physical Demands
  • Will often work up to sixteen (16) hours per day
  • Will typically work up to seven (7) days per week, for fourteen (14) to twenty-21 (21) days straight
  • Line Medic Positions: Arduous Duty Work Capacity Test (walk 3 miles with a 45 lb pack on in 45 minutes)
  • Camp Medic Positions: Light Duty Work Capacity Test (walk 1 mi in 15 min with no pack)
  • May work in austere wilderness environments
  • Should be prepared to reside in a base camp or spike camp setting with limited amenities for long periods 

Compensation and Work Schedule
  • Extensive travel throughout the U.S. during fire season
  • Housing while NOT assigned to a wildfire is not provided
  • All travel expenses, including meals and lodging, are provided by the company while the employee is in official travel status to and from and while at an incident
  • All necessary medical equipment (i.e. ALS or BLS trauma kits) will be provided by the company 
  • All necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided by the company
