CHAT Bus Driver

  • $13.00 - $18.00/hour
  • CHAT has a mission to impact hundreds of youth in the East End of Richmond. Transportation to and from school and out of school activities is an obstacle for many of the families we serve, which makes transportation a necessity at our organization.

Therefore, we are seeking several part-time Bus Drivers who can provide consistent and timely transportation for CHAT students while holding safety as a top priority. Each driver will work a regular schedule of 5 - 20 hours per week beginning in September, with some training and orientation in late August.

The primary objectives of this role are:

    1. Drive a 14-passenger minibus or van on a regularly scheduled route transporting youth to and from programs.
    2. Drive youth on field trips of educational interest, or other driving as mutually agreed upon in advance.
    3. Greet students warmly by name and ensure students maintain orderly conduct while riding the bus, documenting and communicating any incidents to your supervisor.
    4. Maintain required records about youth and families assigned to transportation routes, and checking email daily for any updates.
    5. Report for daily verbal check-ins with supervisor about route changes or other issues.
    6. Maintain vehicle in proper and safe operating condition at all times and report defects to supervisor.
    7. Observe safety precautions and enforce regulations while loading and discharging passengers and while bus is in operation.
    8. Other duties as assigned.

    Potential Schedule

Drivers are needed to provide student transportation for Church Hill Academy (high school), Tiny Tykes Preschool, and After School programming (K-12). Individual drivers will be assigned to regular routes, some serving a single student group (i.e. only Tiny Tykes Preschool) and some serving several (i.e. both Church Hill Academy and the After School Program). Schedules may vary from day to day due to school delays, early dismissals, cancellations or holidays. This is a school year position only (mid-August through mid-June), although there may be summer driving opportunities.

Church Hill Academy (Monday - Friday)

7:00 - 8:00 AM: Pick up students from bus stops before school following the assigned route

2:40 – 3:30 PM: Drop students off at bus stops after school

Tiny Tykes Preschool (Monday - Friday)

8:00 - 9:00 AM: Pick up students from home before school following the assigned route

11:45 AM - 12:45 PM: Take students home after half-day preschool

2:45 - 3:30 PM: Take students home after extended-day programming

After School Program (Three days per week)

3:00 - 4:00 PM: Pick up students from school and transport them to our programming site

5:45 - 6:30 PM: Take students home after programming

Drivers are also expected to keep their bus clean, get gas when necessary, and meet with their supervisor regularly, all while on the clock but outside of the schedule listed above.
