We are looking for an experienced project management leader to join our team as Manager of the Project Management Organization. This person will be responsible for developing and scaling our project management function to meet the growing demand for services and ensure delivery excellence across all projects for external customers and internal stakeholders. This person must have exceptional communication skills, excellent people skills, strong business acumen and be comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Build out the project management function in our organization in order to ensure the Project Management Organization consistently performs to the highest standards of excellence.
- Develop project management processes that work seamlessly across all functions of the organization delivering world-class service to customers, both external and internal.
- Coach and mentor the Project Management team so they consistently perform to the highest standards across the organization.
- Organizing and facilitating activities for the PMO team - including staff meetings, 1:1 meetings and working sessions
- Work to ensure that Project Management best practices are standardized across projects in order to maintain consistent delivery excellence in every project.
- Create individualized professional development plans for project management team members.
- Ensure that all project management tools are used and optimized for maximum efficiency.
- Identify any gaps in the project management toolset and be a proactive member of a cross-functional team in identifying and developing new tools.
- Work with project managers to ensure that all projects stay in scope and on schedule.
- Work with project managers to course correct as needed when projects encounter issues, including providing an escalation path whenever necessary.
Requirements / Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred (additional relevant experience may be substituted for education)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a customer facing, enterprise level project management for IT projects
- Minimum 2 years of experience leading a Project Management function within a customer facing organization
- Demonstrated mastery of project management practice in a complex, deadline driven environment
- Well-developed and effective team facilitation and leadership skills; able to establish a cooperative and accountable team environment
- Excellent emotional intelligence, patience, and active listening skills
- Experience managing in a matrix organization
- Experience managing statewide projects
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Proven ability to recommend and integrate processes to Project Management function to ensure project management team provides valuable and strategic support for the teams they support
- Experience scoping project work and determining resource allocation requirements
- Project management certification (PMP) and /or formal coursework/training in project management strongly preferred
