Business Insider is looking for an experienced reporter to cover healthcare politics and policy.
Lawmakers in the US have big ambitions to reshape healthcare. On the left, there’s Medicare for All
. On the right, the push to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act continues. Plus, politicians want to rein in drug prices, and federal policy directly affects how every one of us gets healthcare and pays for it.
We’re looking for someone who can deliver major stories at the intersection of business and policy and explain this complex world to our readers. This is a high profile role that will require traditional beat reporting, investigative work, and analysis.
We value coverage that makes an impact. Our reporting has already forced insurers
to change their policies, giving sick kids access to life-saving drugs. We revealed
how drug companies teamed up to raise the cost
of your medicines, and delivered the inside story
on disintegrating poop-testing startup uBiome.
A successful reporter in this role will spend a lot of time with executives, lawmakers, investors, and lobbyists to get the inside story of how healthcare policy gets made and implemented, and affects all of us. Then, the reporter will be able to convey that to our readers in an engaging manner.
We're looking for someone with:
• Experience reporting at the intersection of politics and healthcare or a similar industry
• A track record of breaking news that matters on a competitive beat
• The ability to work quickly and independently
• An impeccable standard of spelling, punctuation and headline-writing
• An interest in using different formats (lists, charts, narratives) to tell stories in the most effective way
• The passion to go the extra mile to deliver stories for our readers that they can’t find anywhere else
This is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C., or another location, depending on the candidate. Business Insider offers competitive compensation packages complete with benefits.
