Animal Care Assistant

As an Animal Care Assistant at Brook Farm Veterinary Center, you will work with our doctors and technicians to help us provide exceptional veterinary care. Animal Care Assistants spend their time making sure our patients are comfortable and ensuring that their environment is spotlessly clean. Assistants remain friendly and flexible in the face of varying expectations from clients, doctors, and supervisors and never hesitate to help out wherever they can. Our assistants must understand both medicine and people quickly: their focus changes according to the priority of the moment, and as such they must multitask impeccably, think on their feet, and remain calm in difficult situations.

Animal Care Assistants are:
  • Resourceful: you get the job done and can follow instructions.
  • Detail-Oriented: you ask questions and aim to do things correctly.
  • Positive: you maintain an even temper in a high-intensity, stressful environment.
  • Driven: you can cope with repetitive or continuous processes and inquiries.
  • Ready to Get Dirty: you know that caring for animals is often a dirty job.
  • Strong: you have the physical strength, dexterity, and reflexes to keep the pet, yourself, and other staff safe.
  • Quick: you respond quickly to frequent auditory signals, warnings, or communication from staff, animals, and medical equipment.
  • Open: you love learning (if you have past experience, prepare to adapt to our radically different way of working.)

Your Skills
You might fit in well at Brook Farm if you play nice with others, and if you are self-motivated and take direction well. You believe in treating people with the same love, compassion, and respect that you give pets and believe that it is your duty to create benefit for others. You’re energetic and multitask impeccably, and you don’t give up - period. You excel in consistently high-pressure situations and work best when your plate is full.

We're looking for someone who is:

  • A focused learner: you take every aspect of their position seriously and accept constructive criticism well.
  • Empathetic: you operate with a human heart.
  • Responsible: you are honest, reliable, and able to work independently.
  • Timely: you are punctual in your commitments and duties.
  • A nice person (bonus if you’re funny!)

Benefits
  • Competitive salaries and schedules: we pay a living wage
  • Paid time off and holidays (for eligible employees)
  • Health insurance: subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance for full-time employees
  • Pet care: discounted care and insurance
  • Professional development: we completely coordinate your continuing education and subsidize courses where we can
  • Volunteer benefits
  • Practice-sponsored outings and events
  • Uniform allowance or discount

Be real and don’t spare on the details. We love to read cover letters, so we send our many thanks for taking the time to write something meaningful.
