Currently, we are seeking motivated, accountable professionals to join our team in the role of Estimator. Key Role Responsibilities
- Coordinate total estimating effort, leading a team of estimators.
- Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings to determine the scope of work and required contents of estimate
- Review schedules of projects being estimated
- Organize estimating team to prepare bids, select vendors and/or subcontractors and determine cost (effectiveness) of projects to be bid
- Perform Risk and Contract Management responsibilities as required
- Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into the estimate
- Prepare (discipline estimates by calculating) complete quantity take off based on the scope of work
- Consult with clients, vendors and other stakeholders to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve potential issues
- Review design options and recommend best solutions based on cost, engineering quality or availability of materials
- Act as the project champion in working with other Bronte Construction employees, owners and subcontractors to get commitment and consensus regarding proposed bids
- Establish and review the list of work to be performed by subcontractors
- Review the final estimate and apply strategic cost factors where necessary
- Monitor client changes and advises the estimating team of all changes in scope during the estimate period
- Partner with other estimators to turn the project over to the production team
- Follow awarded contracts as assigned – may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits
- Advise on major changes in the scope of work and monitor actual cost to estimated cost
- Upon project completion, conduct debriefing with estimating, engineering and production teams to discuss positive and negative aspects of the project
- Search, analyze and communicate to the team options for the most effective means and methods of construction
- Prepare bids, select vendors and/or subcontractors and determine the cost-effectiveness of projects to be bid
Requirements:
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline
- Minimum of 8+ years’ of civil construction experience, with at least 2 years in an estimating capacity
- Technical knowledge and experience design-build and/or P3 projects in Canada is an asset
- Eligibility for registration as a P.Eng is an asset
- Thorough knowledge (ideally with hands-on application) in the construction of earthwork, structures, paving, underground, and grading practices on large high-profile and complex heavy civil projects
- Expert knowledge of HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software, AutoCAD, Word, and Excel
- Previous experience and/or willingness to lead and mentor estimators is preferred
