The Role
Bowery Farming is seeking an Agriculture Technical Assistant who will be supporting the daily growing operations in our indoor farm. You will be responsible for daily crop evaluations as well as daily system audits to ensure optimal growing conditions. To achieve this, Agriculture technical assistants are comfortable working in a fast-paced dynamic environment. With the support of the growing operation team, you will be able to Set Big Bold Goals, interpret data, and deliver business results. You will operate in a multidisciplinary environment with engineers, computer scientists, agricultural scientists, retail and other functions, and your work will meaningfully impact the evolution of the indoor agriculture industry.
What you’ll do at Bowery
- Supporting farm ops team regarding crop health protocols
- Enforce the implementation of all SOPs and drive compliance with crop plans in partnership with supervisors
- Conduct biweekly seed inventories and germination test of current and new seed lots
- Train and assist farm ops team in crop quality checks and evaluations
- Assist Head of growing operations in the implementation of recommended recipes by AgSci team
- Collect & analyze data in order to proactively identify crop issues or develop plans in partnership with AgSci to resolve existing issues
- Assist Head of growing operations by conducting pest and disease scouting
- Implementation of Integration of Pest Management Practices.
- Identify and implement methods and practices to achieve operational improvements in efficiency, quality, delivery, and operating profits
- Consistent system inspection in the farm to make sure that the environmental conditions are optimal for production and within the target
- Water and Nutrient Management (including collecting samples, monitoring and recording water EC and pH values).
- Promote a culture of world-class performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality
- Influence and drive improvements to the Bowery Farming production software system
- Promote the maintenance of production areas to ensure compliance with company quality, sanitation, and Food Safety standards
- Ensure all required KPI’s are met regarding facilities goals on safety, production, quality, and costs.
- Collaborate with leaders across Bowery to identify and understand operational opportunities for improvement
Who you are
- A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Biology, or related field of study is required
- A minimum of 1-2 year experience is required
- Knowledge of farming and growing operations
- Skills driving continuous improvement initiatives & culture
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
- Detail & process orientation
- Experience with food safety and production is a plus
