Technician

The Boston Eye Group / Boston Laser is looking for talented individuals to serve as Ophthalmic Technicians on our team.
In particularly, we are looking for an experienced Ophthalmic Technician to spearhead our team at the Medford location. Our Technicians perform duties of a clinical assistant/technician specializing in anatomy, function and diseases of the eye. They facilitate patient care by performing the preliminary work up of the patient, including obtaining all past medical records and performing preliminary eye function and diagnostic testing needed for the clinician to diagnose and treat eye conditions. Under the direction of the physician, may administer eye medications and maintain optical and surgical instruments as well as assist in some minor procedures and Lasik Eye Surgery.

Will provide leadership to the other technicians, develop clinical protocols with input from others, and provide training as needed.
Skills and experience needed will have typically been acquired through 2-3 years of experience with COA or 1-2 years of experience with COT working in an ophthalmic/optometric practice setting and knowledge of basic visual testing and certification required. Must have basic proficiency in diagnostic and treatment procedures, including lasers, intraocular injections and ophthalmic surgery. Should have general medical knowledge and be proficient in history taking. Must be able to accurately perform and record basic workup techniques including visual acuity, Goldmann applanation tonometry, pachymetry, evaluation of angles in the slit lamp, pupillary assessment, EOM’s CVF, auto and manual Lensometry, brightness acuity test, auto refraction, auto Keratometry, etc. Will also be expected to be, or become, proficient in some or all of the following diagnostic procedures: A-scan Biometry (Immersion and IOL Master), Optic Nerve and Macula OCT’s , visual field testing, Topography, Fundus photography. 
We will also ask this person to become familiar with the reception and administrative aspects of the practice so they can provide comprehensive assistance when necessary.

Our organization has locations in Brookline, Wellesley, Medford and Lawrence and although this position will be based in Wellesley these individuals would need to be able and willing to travel to all other locations if necessary. (Mileage is reimbursed)

Individuals must have the ability to provide situational leadership, have exceptional diplomatic communication skills and experience in handling difficult customer situations. Must be detailed oriented, and have the ability to multi-task. Also, a proven track record in advanced high level customer service and follow through and Must a positive and professional team player.
