As a cafe shift leader, you will be trained on all aspects of a cafe specialist's role, which includes espresso bar training, working on the cash register and doing food preparation in the kitchen. After successfully achieving a high level of competency for these positions, as well as completing a schedule of in-house continued education in wine, coffee and beer knowledge, you will have the ability to apply for a lead role.
The additional responsibilities of a leader include, but are not limited to:
- Training and continuing education and support of new team members
- Assume the role of the ‘point person’ for all customer service and employee questions while GM is not present.
- Provide regular, clear communication to the GM regarding operations or customer service issues including feedback on staff performance.
- Assist the location GM on any other tasks as may be assigned including assistance w/ ordering, receiving, reporting and other administrative or non-administrative duties.
- Assist in goal promotion and coach employees on ongoing and ‘special’ company initiatives, sales, promotions or other happenings in the cafe.
- Serve as a positive role model and lead by example for all issues related to customer service, operations and employee performance. This includes maintaining appropriate levels of consistency, speed of service, cleanliness and general readiness of the cafe for day to day business.
