Status:  Contract-Part Time Employee

Job Summary

The person holding position is responsible for the provision of respiratory care for Barber DME’s customer/patients, including the planning, developing and implementation of the respiratory care programs for the company.  This position serves as a resource for technical questions, applications and problem solving regarding respiratory equipment and other systems as needed.  This position requires clinical assessment skills and the ability to make appropriate decisions and modify care according to each patient’s specific physician’s order.  The Respiratory Therapist acts as resource to physicians and health care professionals ensuring orders are concurrent with company policies and procedures.

Principle Accountabilities

Respiratory Therapist:

·        Monitors patients on mechanical ventilation or various oxygen support systems
·        Serves as a resource for technical questions, applications and problem solving regarding respiratory equipment and other systems as needed
·        Responsible when necessary for monitoring and maintaining patient airway to include performing nasal, nasotracheal, endotracheal, and oral suctioning
·        Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the differences in techniques and treatment modalities as performed on patients of varying ages, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients
·        Supports criteria(s) set for appropriate patient care and Respiratory Care Services
·        Recognizes medical problems and reports it to patient’s physician in a timely manner
·        Pulmonary function testing, blood gas analysis, nebulized treatments, chest physiotherapy, oxygen therapy, delivery in varies modalities, bag/valve/mask ventilation, and other accepted treatments required to maintain a patent airway
·        Administers diagnostic testing procedures to determine the extent of patient’s impairment and appropriateness of treatment and ventilation parameters
·        Documents all pertinent data on the medical record during and following completion of any service
·        Adheres to and implements all company policies and procedures 
·        Calls on key medical referral sources and maintains patient accounts
·         Stays current with industry standards by reading/attending educational presentations
·        Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities
·        Takes appropriate action to ensure that the company complies with applicable laws and regulations
·        Monitors and controls the company assets at both the company location and in patient’s homes when necessary
·        Develops and maintains a working knowledge of current Tricare and Medicare regulations 
·        Maintain file containing all relevant company policies and documents
·        Performs and Promotes excellent customer service at all times
·        Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.  Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patient’s needs are met and company policy is followed
·        Attends management meetings, as appropriate
·        Provide and conducts training to employees when necessary
·        Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the company 
·        Maintain and adhere to ABC standards
·        Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding operations, fire, safety and infection control



·        Current valid state license/certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
·        Graduate of an AMA-approved school of respiratory therapy.  Current valid Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider
·        Successful completion of Neonatal Resuscitation certification
·        Three (3) or more years of previous experience in all aspects of respiratory therapy
·        Must be a strong communicator, have excellent written, presentation, oral communications and interpersonal skills   
·        Must possess strong leadership skills, can motivate and influence others 
·        Must be able to think creatively and strategically, have excellent judgment and can work in a changing environment 
·        Fluency in English (Spanish a plus)
·        Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the State in which you reside 

Preferred qualifications: 

·        Durable Medical Equipment experience 
·        1-4 years’ supervisory experience 
·        3 years’ experience in Home Health Industry
