Principal Engineer of Technology 

What You’ll Do:
You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality software technology outcomes at a major research institution in Philadelphia, providing technical guidance and leadership on all software consulting projects. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Attend weekly project stewards meetings to provide technical oversight, ideally in person twice per month
  • Use your consulting skills to sometimes push back on user requests, or the technical team solutions, on account of constraints and client strategic priorities and business needs
  • Determining the best way to implement functionality from a both a technical architectural standpoint but also what makes sense for the customer given business needs and constraints
  • Determining the best DevOps practices
  • Project oversight/mentoring on technical & project management issues to improve improve overall quality and ensure delivery is on, or under, budget
  • Ensuring consistency and uniformity of technical processes at client

Requirements:
  • Experience with account management with enterprise clients
  • Consulting experience
  • Very strong technical background in software 
  • Deep experience with Huron-Click, Cayuse, or other research administration software , or ability to come up to speed thoroughly and quickly
  • Research Administration domain expertise, or ability to come up to speed thoroughly and quickly

As part of your day to day, you will:
  • Oversee projects as a primary project leader and mentoring more junior project leaders/developers
  • Review code check-ins and tickets/issues across multiple client Huron Portal sites
  • Interacting on Slack to provide clarity and guidance
  • Work to stay up to date on understanding technical and business challenges at major research institution in Philadelphia, and keeping your Huron Portal knowledge up to date
  • Monitor as issues come in, with an awareness of when to jump in
  • Closely review projects with critical outcomes

  • You are able to deliver all functionality on the client roadmap on time and on budget
  • Projects are completed in such a way where users are satisfied and able to use solutions without major complaints
  • Expertise provided in a manner that leads others (on the client team and internally) to view you as an approachable technical expert 

Travel Requirements
This position could either be located in Philadelphia or in Portland, Oregon. If in Portland, the travel requirements of this role are to be on-site in Philadelphia a minimum of once per month for a duration of 2-4 days, with preference for traveling every two weeks. If not based in Portland, this person should also be able to travel to Portland at least 2x per year.

Compensation
160 - 180k, based on experience, with bonus potential.
