POSITION OVERVIEW
The Network Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and administering Avertra computer networks including hardware, software, and other related systems, as well as working closely with network users in order to identify potential issues and fix existing problems
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configurations.
- Perform disaster recovery operations and data backups when required
- Protect data, software, and hardware by coordinating, planning and implementing network security measures
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and other network and system problems
- Replace faulty network hardware components when required
- Configure and install various network devices and services i.e. routers, switches, tunnels, load balancers, VPN, etc
- Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes, and security configuration
- Install, configure, maintain, and support firewalls, VPNs, website filtering devices, and remote access systems
- Maintain, configure, and monitor virus protection software and email applications
- Monitor network performance availability and reliability to determine if adjustments need to be made and ensure compliance with information security policies and procedures
- Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of networks and computer systems
- Confer with network users to solve existing system problems
- Coordinate computer network access and use
- Design, configure and test networking software, computer hardware, and operating system software
- Undertake technical projects to help manage, maintain, and scale the overall technical infrastructure
- Work with project teams to design and implement secure network connectivity solutions
- Provide technical input to the design and selection of strategic solutions
- Act as an escalation point for vendors and clients to resolve problems
COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge in Cloud providers such as Azure , AWS , Rackspace, IBM, etc
- Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware
- Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewall, routers, switches, controllers
- Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols
- Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication system
- Provide specific detailed information for hardware and software selection
- Network security experience
- LAN and WAN experience
- Ability to work with all levels of staff within and outside of the department and outside the organization
- Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources
- Accurately prepare written business correspondence that is coherent, grammatically correct, effective and professional
- Self-starter, able to work independently but comfortable working in a team environment
- Ability to think through problems and visualize the solution
- Good communication skills – both written and verbal
- Strong documentation skills
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in CS, IT, or any related field
