Head of Marketing

Master of Malt is a multi-award-winning online drinks retailer, with a particular passion for whisky, gin, and other premium spirits.

Where our true passion lies, however, is in delivering extraordinary drinks experiences. This is less about flogging bottles and more about the process; how we aid learning and discovery, etc. It’s about connecting people with every drinks-related experience that can be conceived of, in the most delightful way imaginable.

This is our mission: to shorten the distance to amazing drinks experiences. To learn more, check out our “about us” page.

The Challenge

We’re looking for a smart, innovative and challenging individual to lead our marketing team; taking ownership of branding, customer acquisition, engagement and retention, and collaborating across the entire business to develop and deliver our customer promises.  We’re extremely proud of what's been achieved to date, but we need a skipper at the head of the ship to make sure we’re heading in the right direction, and at full steam!

Your first challenge will be to unite our existing team of award-winning domain experts under a single brand and communication strategy, identifying and filling gaps to build and nurture a highly skilled, efficient and collaborative marketing team.

You’ll lead that team in the coming years to push our mission forward and reach more and more potential customers, in a way that is meaningful and adds value for all.

The Role

The Head of Marketing will report directly into our MD with three direct reports, under which there are teams totalling 20 people (at the time of writing - we expect this number to grow in the coming months/years).

Specific responsibilities:
  • Build and develop a world-class marketing team.
  • Measure and analyse everything we do, to inform decision making and planning.
  • Develop the Master of Malt brand, ensuring our look and feel is unified across everything we do and in a way that communicates what we’re about in an honest and meaningful way.
  • Develop campaigns with our suppliers in a way that delivers brand and commercial goals, as well as value to our customers.
  • Contribute generally to Master of Malt as a member of the leadership team
  • Collaborate generally across Atom Group as a marketing thought leader.

About You
Firstly, you think that our core values are, well, valuable.  Put another way, if you believe the opposite of our values - for example, that a “good enough” experience is good enough - then you might be happier elsewhere.

The challenge outlined above excites you, and you believe you have the talent and experience to join our mission and make a real difference.

You’re curious about the world and you take ownership of your personal development;  you read broadly, and you often reflect on your “toolkit” (knowledge, talents, worldview, etc.) with the aim of making yourself more influential and wise.

Specifically:
  • You’ve held a senior marketing position with a decent-sized team and within an ecommerce business.
  • You have a degree in a professional discipline, or something equivalent (an MBA, advanced level CIM diploma, etc).
  • You have strong experience in digital marketing, but also have experience across other media and channels.
  • You are creative and understand how to build a brand.
  • You are highly organised and you plan ahead.
  • You have at least one campaign or execution that you’re ridiculously proud of.

Salary range:  £75-85,000

Why work for us?
Other than the standard benefits you expect to see from a business (think pension, cycle-2-work scheme, free eye care vouchers, childcare vouchers) we also offer…
  • Flexible working - We’re focused on productivity and will work with you to make sure you’re happy with how you work.
  • Free food - A hungry worker is not a happy worker. We stock our kitchens with what you need to get you through the day.
  • Free fancy coffee - George Clooney endorsed, no less...
  • A relaxed working environment - There are no suits and ties here (unless you insist).
  • A challenge - The opportunity to make a difference to the future of the business. It is our people who put us in the 2017 Sunday Times Fast Track 100.
  • Personal Days - Seven completely flexible personal days on top of your annual leave, because we all need a duvet day from time to time.
  • A healthy staff discount - on our world-class range. Just in case that makes a difference.
  • (Un)healthy irreverence - National pizza/doughnut/pie/lemonade/etc day? We got it covered.

What’s more, and most importantly, we’re a company of entrepreneurs and owners. We want every team member to commit, to care, to contribute and to make decisions like a business owner. That’s why every single colleague gets an ownership stake in the business, the value of which grows as the value of the business grows.
