About us:
Master of Malt is a multi-award-winning online drinks retailer, with a particular passion for whisky, gin, and other premium spirits. Where our true passion lies, however, is in delivering extraordinary drinks experiences. This is less about flogging bottles and more about the process; how we aid learning and discovery, etc. It’s about connecting people with every drinks-related experience that can be conceived of, in the most delightful way imaginable.
We're an innovative and fast paced business, and a truly unique place to work - full of great people and delicious drinks (over 16,000 different spirit lines, seriously!), which include our own award winning brands.
Brilliant software is right at the heart of our company - without the best technology we can’t do great work, and coupling that technology with incredibly passionate and talented people is how we win.
The work is challenging, interesting and important.
The opportunity:
Our engineers are a small, but rapidly growing team of technology professionals from a range of backgrounds. We are responsible for developing custom applications to support our logistics systems, goods in and our e-Commerce stack. Longer term, the team will take a leading role in automating our manufacturing systems. We have high expectations on what we can achieve with well developed and custom software, and our intention is to excel in this area. In everything we do, we are disruptive innovators; it is baked into our DNA to challenge orthodoxy and received wisdom wherever we find it.
You are excited about working on a modern tech stack within an eCommerce system, with the flexibility to use the technologies that make you most productive.
You'll have the opportunity to work with a range of cloud providers, including Azure and AWS.
You love to learn, but are smart enough to know that the latest “cool” technology might not be the right long term choice.
You understand that if a system doesn’t work for the user when they need it, then it doesn’t work. Successful systems have monitoring, redundancy and come with proper training and guides. You never blame the user.
You are confident enough to speak up when you see things being done wrong.
You’ll work with a focused and growing team of first class engineers and leaders; some joined us straight from uni while others came with a wealth of professional experience from the likes of Netflix. You love working in a team, enjoy pair programming and supporting junior engineers with their development.
The successful candidate will:
- Be experienced (8+ years) working with a range of Object Oriented languages and frameworks, ideally using C#, but Java is just fine too
- You will have experience deploying in a Cloud environment, either commercially (at a previous job), or you can demonstrate through a personal project
- You’ll understand the need to consider availability in everything you do, and how to plan for demand spikes
- You believe in iterative test-driven development
- You are an effective communicator, as happy dealing with internal customers face-to-face as you are with other engineers over Slack
- You’ll be good at taking fuzzy requirements and working with product teams to turn that into a detailed specification that will end up with a system that delights the end user
It would be great if you:
- Have experience with MS SQL Server
- Have experience developing logistics systems
Why work for Us?
Other than the standard benefits you expect to see from a business (think pension, cycle-2-work scheme, free eye care vouchers, childcare vouchers) we also offer…
- Flexible working - We’re focused on productivity, not the clock. We’ll work with you to make sure you’re happy with how and when you work.
- Free food - A hungry worker is not a happy worker. We stock our kitchens with what you need to get you through the day.
- Free fancy coffee - George Clooney endorsed, no less...
- A relaxed working environment - There are no suits and ties here (unless you insist).
- A challenge - The opportunity to make a difference to the future of the business. It is our people who put us in the 2017 Sunday Times Fast Track 100.
- Personal Days - Seven completely flexible personal days on top of your annual leave, because we all need a duvet day from time to time.
- A healthy staff discount on our world-class range - Just in case that makes a difference.
- (Un)healthy irreverence - National pizza/doughnut/pie/lemonade/etc day? We got it covered!
