Cloud Hosting Engineer

A Cloud Hosting Engineer is responsible for architecting, building, documenting, maintaining and troubleshooting cloud based hosting environments for clients and internal systems.

Goal: Facilitator in capturing user’s needs and client goals to recommend and own the strategy of a project’s success

Role & Responsibilities:
  • Communicate effectively with clients and provide excellent support via phone, email and tickets
  • Design, build and scale customer and application specific web hosting environments
  • Troubleshoot cloud & web application performance and security problems
  • Perform cloud & web application load testing and benchmarking
  • Perform security scans and mitigate problems or vulnerabilities
  • Perform cloud based server administrative tasks
  • Perform network administration tasks, including DNS, DHCP and IP subnetting
  • Perform network and web application firewall administration tasks
  • Perform cloud based server maintenance and patching
  • Perform migrations of legacy web applications and software
  • Develop and perform infrastructure builds and code deployments using automation tools
  • Script complex tasks and deployments using PowerShell and BASH
  • Participate in on call rotation, after-hours support and respond to monitoring alerts when needed
  • Write documentation for team processes and procedures
  • Write documentation for infrastructure, software, changes and deployments
  • Define, document and analyze client support requests and escalate appropriately, utilize internal ticketing system, and resolving to client’s satisfaction in a timely manner
  • Mentor and coach Junior Web Hosting Engineers
  • Contribute to IT policies, standards and procedures
  • Ensure that IT policies, standards and procedures are consistently being achieved
  • Represent internally and externally as an expert IT resource
  • Provide project architecture design input and project retrospective feedback
  • Assist the IT Manager with various other required tasks (Lunch and Learns, blog posts, white papers, estimates, etc)
Desired Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience high availability web hosting applications and related activities
  • Red Hat or CentOS Linux
  • Microsoft Server
  • PHP
  • MySQL
  • Apache
  • IIS
  • MS SQL Server
  • CGI
  • 4+ years managing complex AWS infrastructure and deployments
  • 2+ years of experience with 
  • Deployment Automation
  • DevOps
  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate (Required)
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer (Preferred)
  • Web-based coding knowledge and experience
  • Understanding of IT architectures and best practices
  • Understanding of server and application security best practices and encryption
  • Database administration
  • Dependable and professional
  • Positive, self-motivated, quick learner
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to work independently and with a team of peers
  • Ability to recognize tasks that need to be completed and willingness to take responsibility for them

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This job requires routine desk and computer work.  Some travel is required (but it is infrequent for this position).
