We are looking for a senior mechanical estimator who understands how to bid Sheetmetal, mechanical piping (refrigerant, chilled water, condenser water, etc.), mechanical controls and mechanical equipment.
There are HVAC estimators who understand package systems but do not know mechanical piping. We need someone that understands both.
The Senior Estimator is responsible for managing the entire pre-construction process from the initial concept to the final estimate. They guide projects from early design until start of construction while maintaining the Owner's budget, implementing phasing and contracting requirements and keeping the design team on schedule. This position works closely with Project and Field Managers and General Contractors to align pre-construction services to the overall mission of a given project or program and to insure the highest level of professionalism and service to clients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Oversee the accuracy and quality of estimates, drawing reviews, specification reviews and all other construction documents.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with General Contractors and subcontractors.
• Maintain current estimating records and unit prices.
• Collaborate with Construction Team in general contractor/subcontractor proposal evaluation.
• Prepare the preliminary, schematic, design development and construction estimates during pre-construction, monitor design development for potential problem areas or cost over-runs as well as participates in value engineering process.
• Participate in preparation of the construction schedule for pre-construction purposes.
• Support Business Development in proposal presentations and actively participate in business related community activities.
• Take lead role in scheduling, planning, conducting and facilitating design / pre-construction meetings with General Contractors and design team.
• Responsible for collecting and maintaining historical cost data using applicable data from past similar projects, in order to improve the accuracy of conceptual estimates.
• Effectively communicates the scope and nature of the work to internal team members.
• Submits conceptual cost estimates along with detailed information, assumptions, adjustments and procedures considered in the estimate, to management for review.
• Contributes to the development and implementation of technology systems including historical cost tracking and bench-marking systems, estimating systems.
• Analyze project plans and specifications to interpret and determine required scope of work
• Coordinate and organize the bidding efforts of multiple projects at the same time
• Calculate labor and material estimates
• Coordinate vendor and subcontractor lists to facilitate quotes for projects
• Review subcontractor and supplier pricing quotations for correct scopes
• Prepare proposals defining scope of work and cost
• Maintain communication with subcontractors and suppliers
• Estimate budget pricing and design-build pricing
• Assist with Take-offs of duct work and piping systems
• Generate sales proposals and Excel spreadsheets that are complete and accurate for the proposed project.
• Provide detailed estimates to our customers in a timely manner. Work from specifications and take-off.
• Prepare accurate replacement equipment list, sheet metal and labor estimates.
• Understand and contribute to risk and contingency assessments.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Understands the methods and data sources used to estimate construction projects. Adept in quickly learning new software, related to estimating and scheduling. Extensive experience providing pre-construction service in the private sector. Strong business and technical writing skills, strong organizational skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills. Experience making presentations. Strong technical skills and sense of urgency. General knowledge of all aspects of construction including MEP system costs

• Proficient in On Screen Take-off, Microsoft Office (especially Microsoft Excel), FastEst and Timberline.
• Coordinate and organize the bidding efforts of multiple projects in the same time frame. Analyze project plans and specifications to interpret and determine required scope of work
• Prepare labor and material estimates
• Visit project sites to understand site conditions / restrictions when necessary
• Work closely with our take-off estimator to direct priorities and answer questions necessary for takeoffs to be performed.
• Determine quantities and costs for conceptual or design build projects based on knowledge, experience, and with other members of the construction department's assistance.
• Maintain Vendor and Subcontractor lists to facilitate quotes for projects
• On-going communication with subcontractors and suppliers to solicit quotations for each project
• Review Quotations from Subcontractors and suppliers for correct scope and best price
• Prepare professional proposals defining scope of work and cost for our customers
• Interact with customers when reviewing scope of work or questions
TRAVEL: NO OUT OF TOWN TRAVEL
- Furthest we go is Tucson and Flagstaff and for this position it would not require them to travel to those locations
