Mechanical Piping Estimator
Please note for this position: hydraulic exp is best, plumbing is okay and sheet metal is a no.
BASIC FUNCTION
The basic function of the Estimator is to produce profitable mechanical/plumbing contract estimates for the company through both hard bid and negotiation; and to manage and track the projects’ cost to ensure satisfactory completion and verify the appropriate factors in the bid process.
The Estimator is expected to review the estimates with the Project Manager and superintendent assigned to the project to clarify estimator’s understanding of the thought process used in estimating the job.
The Estimator may also become the Project Manager for projects estimated, and must be prepared for this transition.
Track future project bids through the various company market resources. Set up bid log for tracking new projects from design, bid and award stages. Bid log will be reviewed at weekly staff meeting with senior management to get consent from management on which projects will be to add company bid schedule.
Attend pre-bid meeting as directed by senior management. Take project photos, document meeting discussion, document sizes of opening for equipment access in/out of building. Meet with senior management after meeting to discuss finding of the pre-bid site visit.
Estimator will be involve in the buyout process of all newly awarded projects and assist on all material, equipment and subcontractor commitments.

The Estimator is selected by and reports to the Chief Estimator

EDUCATION
Required: High school diploma or equivalent
LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
Required: State Plumbing or Pipefitter license.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Ten years experience with installation and service of plumbing and mechanical systems, in complex commercial projects.
Required: Five years experience with estimating and bidding commercial mechanical construction and/or renovation contracts
Preferred: Five or more years experience as Estimator for a mechanical contracting company with greater than $5 million in annual sales.
SKILLS
Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
Ability to communicate with architects, contractors, customers and field personnel.
Ability to coordinate projects, time, materials and personnel with Project Managers to complete efficiently and within budget.
Ability to respond to customer and technical problems to resolve quickly and effectively without unnecessary intervention or use of resources.
Ability to recognize potential problems and respond quickly to avoid delays or rework, and to communicate effectively with the Project Managers to minimize the negative impact of such situations on the profitable operation of the company.
Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
Ability to maintain excellent knowledge of economic community, recognize threats and opportunities for Schadsons Corporation and to act on such situations to adapt company direction and response to situate the company to respond quickly and favorably to changes in weather, job priority and business climate.
Ability to maintain current knowledge of industry changes in technology and standards.
Ability to use math skills appropriate with project requirements, for both estimating and completion of jobs.
Ability to use computers and software programs to accurately and efficiently meet the business and information needs including Auto Bid Mechanical on-screen takeoff or other estimating software.
