Our founders bring decades of experience in creating powerful teams, platforms, and products for technology in general and cyber-physical systems and robots in particular. They have served in senior leadership or founding roles at KUKA Robotics, Microsoft, and Udacity.

About the role
As a cloud architect at Artificial, you will lead the technical design and implementation of our core software. You will leverage modern software practices and technologies to help create products and platforms that set a foundation for advanced Robotics and Automation in the life sciences problem domain. You will create a unique system architecture that leverages the best of the Internet in terms of code modularity (dockers, stateless microservices, K8s) while also artfully remaining cloud-agnostic. You will help design mechanisms such that our core applications can both run natively in the cloud, but also deploy to edge and embedded devices. The services and architecture you help create, both lay the foundation for improving the rate of drug discovery and synthetic biology by providing better born in the cloud building blocks, but also serve as the cornerstone upon which we will apply traditional and emerging aspects of artificial intelligence to optimize lab automation. In addition to your technical contributions, you will help build and lead a small high-functioning team which you will coach, mentor and develop.

You are comfortable defining goals and roadmaps for execution in an ambiguous environment
You have well-earned opinions on the benefits and costs of bare-metal, virtual, containerized, and serverless applications
Experience in system architecture and an APIs-first view on modular service architectures
Experience designing stateless microservices with well designed APIs
Solid working knowledge of REST, gRPC, proto and similar mechanisms is ideal
Deployed and managed infrastructure in AWS, GCP, and/or Azure, using tools like Terraform, Docker, K8s, Helm, Cloudformation, and Ansible
Built multiple production environments and handled authentication, user management, and security best practices
Experience with low-level web frameworks, proxies, and networking fundamentals
Very comfortable developing in a Linux environment
Solid working knowledge of Python and/or C++ is ideal
A degree or study in software engineering or computer science is preferred, but equivalent experience is welcome
