The Automation and Networking Intern Engineer will provide support and assistance, throughout the entire project lifecycle, to the Network Control (NC) Team Leader.
The Automation and Networking Engineer will play a vital role in learning and supporting a safe and timely completion of the automation and networking designs to ensure projects are delivered on-time and on-budget.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY / TASKS
Under supervision of the NC Team lead, responsible for design, engineering and commissioning of PLC based fully integrated automation systems for DC traction power substations.
Learn about selection of complete hardware and design including development of network architectures for Simatic PLC, HMI and SCADA Systems.
Actively engage in software development utilizing a wide range of technology tools such as TIA Portal, WinCC, Step7 and Industrial Ethernet based protocols.
As needed and under guidance of a Senior NC Engineer or Team Lead, performs Factory Integration Testing (FIT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) / commissioning tests and modifies hardware and software to achieve an operational state on site.
Travel to customer locations may be required and could at times go as high as up to 50%.
Learns about the planning and design of customer TPSS-SCADA data networks.
Under the supervision of NC Team lead, develops solutions to complex network problems, programming issues and specifications requirements at the SCADA level.
Once trained, is willing to join and learn the Installation, maintenance and monitoring of complex operation of a customer's network system.
Provides engineering support to the Commissioning Team during commissioning phase of a project
Interfaces with the Project Management team to prepare engineering submittals and work plans
Interfaces with Procurement to develop material specifications for vendors and manufacturers
Assist in recommending new designs, new processes, or design changes to meet project requirements and to ensure our continuous competiveness
Routinely create Bill of Materials (BOM) for each piece of equipment required for automation and networking designs
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Working towards (or recently completed) a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in an electrically biased Engineering discipline (preferred)
COMPETENCIES
Knowledge & Experience:
Basic knowledge of Control and Automation systems
Basic knowledge of Siemens PLC/HMI systems and networking equipment
Basic knowledge of Siemens S7-1500, S7-400/H, S7-300 PLC’s
Basic knowledge of Simatic Manager and TIA Portal
Basic knowledge of Traction Power (preferred)
Basic knowledge of Cellular technology (preferred)
Familiarity with Siemens PLC and HMI hardware and software
Ability to code in higher structured languages such as C or C++
Ability to test and troubleshoot wiring in cabinets and panels
