Product Engineer 1

Duration: 12 months

 Position may require international travel. Some of the travel will be planned and others will be short notice. 


Provides assistance in routine planning of detailed product development objectives. Assists in the preparation of routine sketches, design layouts, and other specifications. Provides assistance in routine review of results to determine that products perform in the intended manner. Assists in preparing routine prototypes for testing and provides technical assistance on design feasibility. Provides assistance in standardizing routine materials, components and assemblies to minimize the items procured, manufactured and inventoried. 

Supports the planning of detailed product development objectives. Participates in the preparation and implementation of supply chain and manufacturing activities related to new product development. 

Required Skills 
-Bachelors in any of the following: ME, EE, IE, ChemE, BME with 1 - 3 years related experience. 
-Able to read and interpret GD&T ASME Y14.5M-1994 dimensioning and tolerancing. 
-Demonstrated knowledge of the limitations of all forms of current fabrication processes. 
-Able to determine acceptable tolerance levels for each fabrication process. 
-Experience with design, manufacturing tools & principles involved in the production of precision devices, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of high quality goods such as “Lean” and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly. 
-Experience in evaluating and selecting suitable materials, fabrication processes and assessing appropriate precision requirements of key components to ensure functional and cost effective designs that operate to required repeatability, reliability and cost levels. 
-Experience developing, evaluating and improving manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards. 
-Experience in design and manufacturing in a new product development environment. 
-Experience in developing and implementing assembly fixtures. 
-Interface experience with R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality and Regulatory functions. 
-Experienced with running supplier design reviews to establish best design and fabrication process. 
-Working knowledge of SAP/TeamCenter/Unigraphics or equivalent 

Key responsibilities 
-Work with R&D to develop quality designs that are manufacturable, testable, lowest cost and able to be global sourced over the life of the design. 
-Participate in R&D design reviews to ensure designs are quality, manufacturable, testable and lowest cost. 
-Coordinate supplier interface and participation during design & layout reviews for manufacturing. 
-Review design documents for compliance to design standards. 
-Work with R&D to minimize the use of special material, components, hardware and processes except where required by functionality and availability of alternative choices. 
-Complete all work required for design changes per the applicable design change process. 
-Review Component, Assembly drawings and Bills of Material, and other design documents looking for design completeness, design quality, component commonality with other designs, minimum or no high tolerance components and minimize the use of single source and high cost components. 
-Review design documents for compliance to design standards 
-Work with R&D to update and develop design standards based on manufacturing standards. 
-Work with R&D and the Tester Development Team to implement test equipment both internally and externally. 
-Work with Supplier Operations to establishing supply chain strategies and their implementation. 
-Work with Supplier Operations and Commodity managers to select supplier and place prototype orders. 

Travel Requirements 
-Candidate may be required to travel outside of the US to visit suppliers. Client is not responsible for visas or reentry requirements into the US.
