POSITION OVERVIEW
We are currently seeking to hire a Manufacturing Engineer at our Tualatin, OR production facility to support the manufacturing of DC traction power rail electrification equipment and supporting components.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Manufacturing Engineer primary responsibilities are to improve the production process, reduce the cost of manufacturing, and increase the quality of manufactured equipment.
The Manufacturing Engineer, in performing his role, will be required to work closely with the Production Manager to ensure the safe and timely delivery of manufactured equipment to ensure projects are delivered on-time and on-budget ensuring all safety, quality and environmental requirements are met.
The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for ensuring adherence at all times to Siemens Business Management Systems, Safety working policies, standards, procedures and standard practices.
The Manufacturing Engineer shall provide the highest quality and level of Customer service. At the same time achievement of the delivery timescales and at budgeted cost without compromising the quality of product or service is a critical success factor.
The Manufacturing Engineer shall be required to have a good understanding of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality legislation and procedures and incorporate them into the Engineering design.
The Manufacturing Engineer shall take an active role tin our digitalization effort of our Tualatin, OR production facility.
The Manufacturing Engineer will support the Production Manager as required.
The Manufacturing Engineer will report to the Head of Engineering.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY / TASKS
- Creates Manufacturing Documentation Packages for use by production floor, including Solidworks 2D drawings, wire lists, Bill of Materials etc.
- Modifies Solidworks 3D models
- Reviews and redlines electrical schematics
- Tests and troubleshoots manufactured equipment
- Performs Quality Control (QC) inspections as necessary
- Assists in identifying, analyzing, and implementing manufacturing cost reduction initiatives
- Assists in developing and implementing routine performance measurement and improvement initiatives
- Assists with routine inspections and investigations by gathering data related to proper utilization of company labor, equipment, materials and facilities
- Provides assistance in planning of equipment layout, workflow, and accidental prevention measures to maintain optimum and safe utilization of plant resources
- Designs manufacturing flows for build products inserting QC and data acquisition and control points
- Occasionally train bay leads and floor technicians in product functions and applications
- Provides assistance in activities for the development, implementation and maintenance of manufacturing processes and equipment
- Ensure productive and cost effective use of technical resources to achieve company targets, margins and profit
- Positively influence Engineering design and construction safety performance and aims for zero accidents
- Support the project commercial process with the Commercial Manager and ensure all Engineering design change requests are processed on time
- Maintain effective communications with all project participants to ensure contract delivery
- Take an active role in the local coaching of junior /less experienced staff to ensure the developmental needs of both the individual and the business are met
- Ability to apply technical knowledge in analyzing problems and creating innovative solutions
- Flexible approach to work, and ability to prioritize and manage your time effectively
- Strong attention to detail and ability to make correct judgments
- Undertake lessons learnt exercises to maintain value
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience (minimum)
- Master of Science (MSc) degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
COMPETENCIES
Knowledge & Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working as a Manufacturing Engineer
- Approximately 2 years’ experience with DC switchgear design and manufacturing
- Experience managing a team of manufacturing engineers is an advantage
- Experience in both electrical and mechanical engineering
- Experience in fast paced manufacturing environment
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Ability to translate material requirements from electrical schematics and mechanical models
- Excellent organizational skills required
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work effectively
- Ability to effectively work as an individual and as a member of a team
- Proven safety management knowledge
- Proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Good communication and inter personal skills and be able to effectively communicate and report at all levels
- Proficient in discipline specific ANSI / IEEE and NEMA standards
- Experience within a contracting or manufacturer industry
- Demonstrable in-depth knowledge of and experience with the following Siemens products is an advantage:
o 8DA10, 8DA11 and 8DA12 Gas-insulated Switchgear (GIS)
o Sitras® TCR thyristor rectifier
o Sitras® REC diode rectifier
o Sitras® DSG DC switchgear
o Sitras® PRO DC micro-processor protection relay
o Sitras® SCD short-circuiting device
o Sitras® SCS station controller
- Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and experience to read/understand/ interpret wiring schematics and / or control circuitry
- Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and experience with lean manufacturing or similar production process improvement
- Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and experience writing production test / Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) procedures
- Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and experience conducting production test / Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Visio)
- Proficient in Solidworks 3D and AutoCAD Electrical
