Duration: 6 months
Overview
Work in a mechanical engineering research and development laboratory to support the
Product Development Life Cycle by executing a variety of laboratory tasks.
Ensure that all lab corporate requirements and industry standards are met during the
project development stage through the use of computers, computer controls, robotics,
automation, CAD, machine shop, and various data acquisition systems.
Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations
Work in association with engineers and technicians to create fixturing and equipment to support
testing, using CAD software, and Machine Shop equipment.
Maintain a high level of creative input, as testing specifications/equipment can be incomplete
during early project development stages.
Monitor equipment performance, tests progress, troubleshoot and diagnose typical problems with
processes and equipment under direction, or following documented methods or procedure.
Validate test parameters, equipment calibration, identify and document failures, adjust and repair
equipment.
Work independently and as part of teams; be able to effectively communicate with
engineers, designers, customers, business partners and vendors.
Basic Qualifications
Technical knowledge of Mechanical Engineering; knowledge of engineering theory as it
relates to mechanical, and environmental testing standards and associated
equipment/fixturing.
Knowledge of CAD software (3D) to generate designs for fixturing and equipment.
Machine Shop experience; use of lathe, milling machine, brake, grinding wheel, drilling
machine, bench saw…etc.; know and respect the safety regulations of machine shop
equipment and environments.
Candidate must be a motivated, organized individual with sound communication,
computer skills and should be well versed in Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word,
Excel, Power-Point).
Justification
Current Condition
o A significant increase in resource demand on the ME Lab staff to fill the
Engineering testing/fixturing requirements.
Resulting in higher queue times, negatively affecting customer satisfaction
Continual reprioritizing of engineering requirements in process in the ME
Lab
Reduced efforts with Lab technological innovation, process
development/improvements, correlation activities and maintenance
Excessive demand on the Me Lab staff to meet customer expectations,
burnout
Benefits
o Focused engineering approach with mechanical & environmental testing, fixture
design, fabrication and modifications.
An established technical resource with a mechanical background who is
familiar with the engineering test equipment/parameters
o Continued Lab alignment/development with dynamic product testing
requirements
o Reduction in queue times for program related testing
o Higher service levels, reducing the reprioritization of requirements for an
improved customer experience
