The mainframe systems administrator installs, customizes, and maintains the z/OS operating system and also installs or upgrades products that run on the system.
The system administrator diagnoses, isolates, and debugs software problems and performs problem isolation.
The administrator also monitors the system’s capacity and performance, plans and executes disaster recovery procedures, and provides level 2 technical support to other groups.
The system administrator will also work with CICS online transactions systems updating resource definitions, monitoring performance, and supporting Web Service connections to and from other systems.
In addition, the administrator will define and manage VTAM and TCPIP applications such as TN3270, FTP, SFTP and SSH, network printing, and remote plant systems connected with Enterprise Extender.
The systems administrator also supports other system groups such as DB2 and IMS database administrators and MQSeries administrators.
The system administrator will also support and work with application programmers to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted operation of the system
