Job Description
The responsibilities for this position include developing and qualifying electronic designs (motherboard, peripherals, and component) for desktop, portable and server computer systems. Duties include all activities necessary to take a design from concept to production including: architecture definition, schematic design, simulation, work with ECAD for physical board layout/route, debug, and test issue resolution and factory ramp support. Additional duties can include development/qualification of the associated device drivers/applets. The developmental engineer will be responsible for working with the design team, cross-functional teams and suppliers to ensure his or her design meets the requirements for: feature set, functionality, cost, reliability, regulatory compliance, and industry standards compliance. 
 
Accountabilities:
*Responsible for electrical design of assigned system/subsystem (PRP). 
*Ensure the manufacturability, reliability and serviceability of designs (PRP). 
*Support the prototype PWA builds of assigned design (PRP). 
*Validate and characterize assigned design (PRP). 
 
Scope:
*Help drive suppliers roadmaps to better align with requirements. 
*Assist in defining system architecture for assigned program and partition design tasks as necessary for team. 
*Identify areas of focus for simulation and work with simulation team to obtain necessary ECAD constraints and ensure they are followed. 
*Drive cross-functional reviews of your team's designs prior to modem-out. In addition, attend and actively participate in cross functional design reviews for all other design programs and ensure consistency in related design across all platforms. 
*Actively support ECAD during place/route of your designs and ensure placement/routing meet all mechanical/electrical requirements. 
*Ensure all electrical issues on your program are driven to closure through root cause and perform real-time updates to issues database. 
*Checks ODM/JDM PC CAD designs for physical board layout/route using Cadence Allegro ECAD. Ensures constraints and design rules are correctly specified and adhered to. Must have extensive previous experience with multi-layer, high speed board physical design, constraints, and design rules. Work with ODM/JDM to develop automated check tools.
 
Knowledge and Skills:
*Mechanical aptitude sufficient for interpretation of mechanical drawing specifications. 
*Ability in organizing and managing multiple projects, setting priorities and working independently under aggressive timelines. 
*Proficient in reading and understanding technical data sheets. 
*Ability to write and analyze requirements, functional specifications, design specifications, tech plans, and documentation. 
*Thorough proficiency with electrical simulation tools; understanding of the different tools available for simulation. 
*Advanced knowledge of analog and digital circuit theory and principles 
*Advanced verbal/written communication and presentation skills. 
*Advanced team leadership skills. 
*Working ability to drive cross functional development efforts through conception, planning, implementation, and sustaining. 
*Thorough understanding of appropriate technologies, vendor products, and competitor's offerings. Ability to analyze options for critical design elements and features and determines optimum selection. 
*Working negotiation and persuasion skills. 
*Thorough ability to identify potential product weakness and be able to provide design guidance and recommendations for improvements to subsequent redesigns. 
*Thorough tactical execution skill. 
*Thorough understanding of appropriate technologies, vendor products, and competitor's offerings. Ability to analyze options for critical design elements and features and determines optimum selection. 
*Working insight and skill to effectively manage cultural differences. 
 
Work environment: 
Normally 8:00am to 5:00pm (flexible hours). Weekends and overtime as necessary when required (exception basis). Resource needs to be on-site. 
Main interface will be project Hardware Engineering lead. Position may attend project team meetings with our ODM/JDM partner.
 
Key functions: 
1. Checking physical layout/routing of multi-layer, high-speed PC boards. 
2. Checking layout/routing constraints and design rules for high-speed PC boards.
