User Experience Designer III

The Specialist is responsible for creating solutions that promote user adoption, self-service, and ease of use. The UX lead will work collaboratively with other teams taking a project from conception, through analysis, prototyping, visual design, finally to implementation ensuring the customers' view remains the focus as well as lead a team of UX members. 
The Specialist is responsible for multiple highly-complex ATPCO products. These products have great volumes of data, frequent changes and require summarization and categorization with drill downs and expansions. The complexity and depth of the data require creative and innovative interactions for the users to understanding what they are viewing, not viewing, analyzing and impacting.  This multidiscipline position requires a technically savvy person that is equal parts: UX advocate, process designer, research analyst, information architect, interaction designer, and visual designer. 
The Specialist will further develop, advocate and follow a user-centered design process, understanding real users - their goals, aptitudes, experiences, needs, and motivations.  In this role, they will approach design from a user-perspective and balance users' needs alongside business goals and technical capabilities. They will be working closely with product managers, their teams and software developers to determine necessary features and drive the design of products. They must be able to effectively bring together industry experts to gather requirements and develop solutions. 
Specific responsibilities include:
Design and deliver compelling, end-to-end user experience solutions for multiple products and platforms, from assessing and defining customer needs to delivering concepts, to prioritizing features, to presenting and evaluating prototypes, to validating user experience feedback
Quickly and iteratively create artifacts that illustrate user tasks, define proposed product functionality, turn business requirements into conceptualizations of the proposed product, and effectively communicate the overall user experience to the project and/or product team. These artifacts may include:
Competitive product analyses, task/process flows, screen flows, storyboards, usage scenarios, detailed descriptions of proposed interactions/behaviors, usage models
Information architectures, site maps, navigation maps, page flows, sketches, conceptual design mockups, wireframes, prototypes and other user experience design deliverables as needed
Gather and track feedback and key design decisions generated from continuous review of these artifacts to iteratively improve the user experience
Ensure a consistent user experience across the suite of applications per the strategic and tactical plans 
Work closely and efficiently with a cross-functional and interdisciplinary team that includes other Designers, Developers, Project and Product Management, Business Analysts, Quality Assurance, Business Partners and customers
Participate in developing the user research and user experience plans for each project, including customer visits, contextual inquiry, interviews and observation, focus groups or surveys as needed. Take a lead role in the execution of these plans
Defend design decisions with well-structured arguments, design rationale that reflects current and emerging standards
Provide strong and fair leadership to the team through motivation, communicating effectively and following divisional procedures
Develop expert-level knowledge of competitive and complementary products to bring new design ideas to each product and project
Maintain knowledge of current and emerging design principles and best practices in user interface design, interaction design, information architecture, usability theory, and evaluation techniques 
Project Management/Communication
Recognize user experience risks as they arise and make design recommendations that considered tradeoffs, scope creep, iterative design, phased releases
Plan and facilitate ad hoc as well as structured usability evaluations with end users at ATPCO, at remote sites and remote-via-computer settings
Conduct usability evaluations using semi- to fully­ functional prototypes or existing applications
Assist business analysts with user acceptance testing
Implement and update the Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC) process to reflect the processes and artifacts necessary to discover, design and development the appropriate UX/UI artifacts and products
Report on and project status with PSD management and PSD-PMO
Clearly communicate and escalate user experience risks to the project team and management, as necessary
Use professional and effective interpersonal skills with team, peers and management, across divisions
Communicate effectively and professionally with customers and colleagues alike; whether from the business or technical team 
Bachelor's degree in Human Computer Interaction, User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Information Architecture, User Interface Design, Human Factors, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience 
Work experience
Minimum qualifications include 6+ years' experience as a User Experience Designer, Interaction Designer, and Information Architect in the design of applications that are driven by highly complex and high-volume data
Equivalent experience in conducting user research, extracting requirements, designing an interaction framework, working on agile/interactive development teams, and presenting their ideas to development and management
