As Director of People at Aperia, you’ll serve as a critical driver of Aperia’s evolution from a high-growth start-up to an established provider of innovative safety, environmentally friendly and efficiency solutions for the transportation industry. Reporting into the Head of Finance, but with direct access to the CEO, you’ll bring your strategic thought leadership, talent and culture-building expertise to help accelerate the company through its next stage of rapid growth and development.
You will drive cultural initiatives, performance management, engagement and retention, career development, compensation, and benefits. You’ll be an integral business partner, providing counsel, developing road-maps and executing on key people-related initiatives. In this role, you will guide us through navigating the complex issues of a fast-growing company, including establishing and championing a people-focused, solutions-oriented approach that enables the entire organization to run smoothly.
Aperia is at an inflection point - we are a bunch of smart & thoughtful people, with a product/company that is extremely well positioned strategically and we have just raised $MM of growth capital. We need an A-player that can help drive employee engagement over the next 5 years so we can fulfill our potential (and have fun along the way :-)).
Key Responsibilities
- Own the Aperia Employee Experience – you will oversee all aspects of employee relations and talent management
- Shape, nurture and champion Aperia’s bold, open culture;
- Be a thought leader,trusted strategic partner, and adviser to the CEO and Aperia's Leadership Team (LT);
- Lead Recruitment – you will manage full-cycle recruitment strategy and function, including orientation, pre-/on-boarding and off-boarding
- Own Employee Development - lead Employee Development, Training and Performance Review programs
- Own Employee Rewards - Develop compelling and effective compensation and benefits packages
- Create a strong employment brand for Aperia that attracts and retains the best talent;
- Lead the People/HR functions including management of the PEO, HR processes and programs - such as benefits enrollment, HR-IS systems, performance review and compensation planning
- Lead Facilities and Office Management functions - including Employee Welfare/Safety/OSHA
- Own and manage the Company Corporate Calendar as a tool to maximize Employee Experience and engagement
- Special Projects – The Director will manage special projects including those relating to facilities, training, employee services, organizational development, and vendor management
What You'll Do
- Build a strong relationship with the CEO and the LT & (as needed) participate as a strategic and valued contributor at weekly LT meetings
- Design a People org vision, philosophy, strategy, and road-map in partnership with the CEO & LT
- Develop and execute on a talent branding and culture strategy (internal- and external-facing)
- Hold regular 1:1s with Aperia's LT to keep a pulse and offer coaching / counsel on their orgs, plans, progress and challenges
- Build, manage and develop a customer-focused People team
- Design org structures, leadership development plans and succession planning strategies
- Own the bar for hiring and retaining the right (highest quality) people at every level for Aperia
- Build strong connections and communication lines among employees and between Aperia headquarters and its other locations;
- Partner closely with the Internal Communications team on employee messaging and content
- Bring in best practices: stay up to date on the most innovative People practices; introduce, create or customize ones that uniquely fit Aperia
- Present and participate in weekly company lunch meetings, quarterly All-Hands and executive off-sites
- Help plan quarterly off-sites and team-building events
You Are/Have
- 5+ years of progressive people leadership experience with a fast-paced, high-growth company where you’ve helped build great companies and cultures from the ground up
- Ability to make progress on long-term goals while also handling short-term tasks. You can lead through ambiguity and constant change and be nimble and responsive in the short-term while driving progress on longer-term foundational initiatives
- Strong people first orientation; high energy level; proactive, thoughtful, empathetic, responsive, organized and actionable with a progressive growth mindset
- Emotionally intelligent and able to build trust and connect with leaders and employees of diverse backgrounds at all levels
- Strategic thinker and problem solver. Motivated by challenges with an optimistic orientation, an eye for solutions and excited to roll up your sleeves to do whatever needs to be done
- Deeply responsible and accountable with a strong attention to programmatic detail and organization, meaning your team never drops any of the many things you are juggling
- An exceptional communicator in both written and verbal interactions; clear, concise, and courageous in giving constructive feedback when needed. Poised and polished presenter.
- Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree a plus
