We are currently seeking a Hardware Engineer II with experience developing and maintaining electronic products to join our Product Development team in Beltsville, MD. This position provides a great opportunity for the right candidate to make a meaningful impact to Alertus, its customers, and to the mass emergency notification industry.
Job Details and Responsibilities:
- Work with other engineers to develop new products and increase capabilities of legacy ones
- Design, prototype, and document new electronic components to be used standalone or as parts of larger systems
- Create necessary packages for transfer to Production and Implementations including Bills of Materials, assembly instructions, test plans, and user documentation
- Work with QA to ensure product developments meet requirements and are ready to transition to Production
- Provide 3rd tier technical assistance to Sales for existing and legacy product as necessary
Required Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrate experience with digital and analog design techniques including best practices for volume production repeat ability and reliability
- Experience with schematic entry and board layout tools
- Design experience with mixed voltage systems and various serial protocols including ethernet, I2C, SPI, and RS232. Some experience with embedded WiFi is preferred. Knowledge of network operation and infrastructure beneficial
- Experience with prototype debug tools such as oscilloscope and logic analyzer, as well as techniques to identify and resolve issues
- Working experience with embedded firmware development and repository systems
- Some experience working with mechanical design to develop electronic housings is preferred
- Experience with low power design/battery powered design/design to cost concepts
- Working knowledge of techniques to reduce EMI/ESD/Susceptibility issues. Previous experience with regulatory testing is helpful
- Able to work both alone and as part of a larger team to support ongoing development efforts
- Demonstrate robust analytic thinking skills to be able to investigate and resolve complex technical issues
- Strong written and oral communication skills with understanding how to engage both technical and non-technical audiences
Required Education and Experience:
- 4 year Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 4-8 years of experience
