Robotics Support Engineer

Robotics Engineer

This position is designed for a talented, early-career engineer who wants to learn robotics at a deep level but at the same time be exposed to real world applications for legged locomotion. A successful candidate will possess exceptional debugging and system skills across mechanical hardware, electronics, and embedded software and have a passion for solving real customer problems. Though primarily a technical position, superior communication skills are necessary to interface effectively with customers and Agility internal resources.

From day one, you will work with the engineering and technician team to learn to build, test, and debug our robots, becoming familiar with them inside and out. You will work with customers to troubleshoot their problems, propose corrective actions when you can or direct the problem to an Agility engineer who can. You will communicate with the customer throughout as you help coordinate engineering, parts ordering and repair resources to ensure the customer is up and running as soon as possible. By collaborating closely with our engineering team as well as customers, you will learn our technology as well as our market and customer challenges. As such, you’ll play a critical role in Agility’s success from the very start.

Successful Robotics Engineers who excel in their initial responsibilities will gain the flexibility to choose their role at Agility Robotics that best matches interests and skillset, such as design, test, manufacturing, support, or application engineering.

Required Qualifications:
  • B.S. or M.S. in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other closely related field.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills in English, for customer-facing interactions and for coordination with our team. Competitive candidates will have a writing sample such as a first-author journal/conference paper, academic thesis/dissertation, or other published document.
  • Superior, documented debugging ability for complex electromechanical  systems. Candidates are expected to have multiple portfolio examples of projects they have worked on, and to clearly describe their contributions to the project.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Technical/scientific fluency in a language other than English, particularly Mandarin, Japanese, Hindi, or German.
  • Experience designing and building mechanical systems that move, particularly systems with multiple degrees of freedom with electromechanical actuators.
  • Ability to write well-commented firmware for common microcontrollers.
  • Strong demonstrated proficiency soldering and wiring.
  • C++ programming experience, including common toolkits such as ROS, OpenCV, etc.
  • Proficiency in one or more CAD packages.
