**NOTE: This position will be in Oakland, CA until December 31, 2019. We will be moving office locations to Newark, CA on January 1, 2020.
Role description:
As a R&D Engineer, you will be responsible for developing Holo’s 3D printing feedstock and printing process to create high quality parts and scalable and reproducible processes. You will be relied upon to contribute to materials formulation, materials testing, and various processing and testing steps involved in preparing feedstock and creating finished parts.
Responsibilities
- Perform analytical tests (chemical, mechanical, thermal) on raw materials, feedstock formulations, and parts
- Statistically analyze experimental results and process data
- Develop new processes to improve quality or speed of various process steps
- Document processes
- Develop material and process specifications
- Testing materials
- Communicating results and plans
- Collaborate with a team of diverse engineers to design and optimize our additive manufacturing process
- Failure analysis and reliability improvement
- Hands on lab work, including chemical, powder, and materials handling
Qualifications
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in materials and process development
- BS/MS in chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, or the equivalent in experience and expertise relevant to additive manufacturing
- Strong analytical approach to troubleshooting materials processing, aging, and development
- Experience with developing new materials
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with changing needs
Bonus points
- Knowledge using mixers, coaters, 3D printers, and/or analytical laboratory equipment
- Familiar with additive manufacturing
- Experience in mixing and coating slurries or inks (paint, battery, fuel cell, electrochromics, or other coating industry)
- Experience transferring a process from R&D to pilot scale
- Experience with photochemistry, thermosetting resins, metal or ceramic sintering, or mechanical testing
- Experience applying statistical methods to materials and process development
- Experience analyzing data with a scientific program
