The company publishes content across its owned and operated Above Average channels and its sports comedy vertical, The Kicker. Outside of its proprietary platforms, Above Average has produced original content for brands including Pepsi, Lexus, and Oreo, and networks including Comedy Central, IFC, and TruTV.

The Kicker is the web’s leading destination for short-form sports comedy, and is a digital property of Above Average. Led by editor-in-chief Bryan Tucker (who also serves as Saturday Night Live co-head writer), The Kicker collaborates with top athletes, comedians and celebrities to create premium original videos and web series, including “Branding U” and “Every Press Conference Ever.” For dedicated and casual fans alike, The Kicker applies a uniquely humorous perspective to sports news, events, and culture every day. The Kicker was launched in 2015.

Job Purpose: Above Average is seeking a Brand Strategist to support the strategic ideation and storytelling for RFP response packages and proactive sales opportunities, contributing to the acquisition of branded content partnerships and campaigns. This role is responsible for the development and delivery of innovative content-led campaigns in presentation form, collaborating with design and branded writing teams. The Brand Strategist will also support VP, Brand Strategy & Integrated Marketing to develop and package strong B2B corporate narratives across formats for The Kicker & Above Average brands, leveraging data-driven and strategically crafted storytelling to increase awareness and market permeation.

  • Contribute to the client RFP response process by supporting overall crafting and execution of brand centric client marketing strategies that clearly communicate program concepts, elements, and benefits for prospective partners
  • Identify and develop materials (in conjunction with Branded Writer and Senior Designer) for evergreen programming and tentpole sales opportunities 
  • Delegate, coordinate and deliver notes for custom design assets to in-house design team for client RFPs and corporate collateral
  • Track competitive landscape and leverage a mix of marketplace insights to identify digital industry trends and best-in-class brand campaigns
  • Leverage strong brand sensibilities to drive innovative client strategies and strengthen the overall value and performance of client campaigns
  • Analyze proprietary analytics platforms (Facebook & YouTube), third party aggregators (Crowd Tangle, Tubular Labs), and industry/marketplace data and research to derive creative insights supporting brand storytelling and client proposals
  • Develop thorough knowledge of The Kicker & Above Average assets and products across all platforms for packaging first-in-class content and media opportunities
  • Coordinate, create and maintain portfolio of sales & marketing pitch collateral

  • Natural ability to think both creatively and strategically for crafting innovative and data-driven brand strategies 
  • Strong brand sensibility a must, with deep understanding of internal brand decisionmaking and agency-side process 
  • Exceptional organization, project management and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritizing across multiple projects effectively with minimal oversight when needed
  • Ability to work cross functionally with internal teams to meet deadlines 
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)

  • Bachelor’s Degree required 
  • 2-5 years of related experience across integrated marketing, brand strategy and/or business development at a publisher, consumer brand or entertainment agency *salary commensurate with experience level
  • Experience and knowledge with social media marketing, platforms and products
  • Experience working in business development and/or sales capacity 
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, with special emphasis in PowerPoint 
  • Knowledge of YouTube & Facebook platforms preferable
  • Branded content and/or comedy experience a plus
